Students will: 1. learn what probability is, 2. learn different ways to express probability numerically: as a ratio, a decimal, and a percentage, and 3. learn how to solve problems based on probability. The class will need the following: 1. Begin the lesson by asking students to define probability (the likelihood or chance that a given event will occur).

EducationWorld is pleased to share these stress-fighting tactics from HeartMath , widely recognized for its science-based stress solutions. According to the new MetLife Survey of the American Teacher: Challenges for School Leadership, 51 percent of teachers report that they feel great stress in their job at least several days a week.

Grammar in the digital age

The author states that for many students, learning grammar is like learning to drive a car. Based upon teenage driving records I would concur. Teaching grammar is certainly something I would like to improve.

According to English teacher Marian Anders, learning to write correctly is like learning to drive a car. Driving is a necessary skill, but you don't need to understand how a car works to be a good driver. And people can learn to write well without knowing the intricacies of traditional grammar.

Something I've always wanted to incorporate more into my social studies classes, especially Civics!

Ever since its opening in 2013, San Francisco-based AltSchool has caught the attention of many in its unique approach to teaching pre-K through grade 8 students. In the short time since its first building opened, it has been able to increase enrollment and open new schools thanks to being thought of as the 21st century answer to education by many Silicon Valley giants such as Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg.

This looks like a great resource for teaching math. It has lessons that are compatible with the Investigations math curriculum we use in the Rapid City Schools.
