Why Bad Environmentalism Is Such an Easy Sell - 0 views

  •
This podcast is not only connected to what we learned in class, but also raises questions to the way we think about economic environmentalism! It even has a short bit on my iceberg "replacing the gas automobile".

When workers in the cafeteria ran outside, they saw black smoke pouring from shattered windows. It came from the area where employees polished thousands of cases a day. A strong statement on Climate Change
  •
I think it was great what Obama did but I was looking through the internet and im not sure how the American public will view it. http://www.nationaljournal.com/energy/public-to-obama-congress-climate-action-is-no-big-deal-this-year-20140128 This article talks about new polls that have come out saying that the public wanted Obama to talk more about jobs and pushing Congress with new economic agendas. I am curious to find out whether or not he will accomplish anything that he said.

A little bit more of an American perspective on the recent results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), but a universal truth for the countries involved, "PISA scores are an economic indicator: rising scores are a good sign that a country's economy will grow as well."

I have a friend who came to the United States from Sweden in hopes of studying here to get a better education, but based off of the chart in the article Sweden and the US have very similar scores. So my friend Kristoffer is basically coming all the way over here to get the same education for a much higher price. I wonder what US schools offer that really draw international students despite the steep tuition.

This is a really great micro-financing site that I just found out about. I think it's really cool that you see exactly where your money is going, and the specific affects that it's having on specific people in another part of the world.

I've done a number of micro-loans with Kiva -- I'd love to talk more with you all about this (and will when we get to our economics unit) -- good find, Ray!

Globalism goes backward - 1 views

  •
Interesting article that suggests that we are reaching the limits of economic globalism, and that the only way to keep expanding is to focus internally. Particularly interesting for Honors kids because it supports Bill McKibben's ideas about localism from a financial standpoint
