Google Slides is an amazing tool to teach with. There are so many applications and unique ways to use Google Slides. Below is a crowdsourced presentation started by myself and @htullman of ways to use Google Slides to teach. Feel free to add a slide and to use the Slides presentation yourself!

Education has changed. No longer is it contained within four classroom walls or the physical site of a school building. Students aren't confined by the eight hours between the school bell's chimes or the struggling budget of an underfunded program.

As experienced teachers, we've been conditioned to reach for curriculum when we have something new to bring to the classroom. But as digital age educators, we also know that kids do best when they can learn something authentically, by figuring out their own answers to real-world problems that are relevant to their lives.

The first few days of school are a vital time to set the right tone for the rest of the year. Many teachers focus on important things like getting to know their students, building relationships and making sure students know what the classroom procedures will be.

Recently, Common Sense Media named Ask a Tech Teacher as one of the 2014 blogs to watch on the topic of Digital Citizenship. It reminded me what a massive topic this is!

Here in our local district, our students know a little something about birthing a global phenomenon. Earlier this year, on a snowy January day, Fairfax County Public schools stayed open while many other area schools were closed or delayed. Students took to Twitter to express their disappointment and the world took notice.

Dan Rothstein and Luz Santana of the Right Question Institute have a developed a wonderfully simple, fun, and highly effective exercise designed to encourage students to generate lots of questions. The process is explained in detail in Rothstein and Santana's book Make Just One Change: Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions -a must-read for teachers or anyone interested in improving education.

As the new year approaches, the thought on everyone's mind is how to make 2015 even more interactive, educational, and engaging for STEM students than the past year. Indeed, it has become a national priority to develop new ways to entice students to STEM careers and offer engaging ways to teach STEM that dismantles old and less-effective learning methods.

Without question, the Internet has changed the way we think and learn, and will continue to do so as our technology evolves. In particular, the ability to access enormous amounts of information at any time from almost any place is forcing schools to redefine the idea of a classroom and the way we approach teaching.

In a world filled with digital communication, how do we teach our digital citizens to use social media wisely? Parents are frequently nervous to talk to kids about online safety, relying on the schools to cover it. Teachers, therefore, are often the default catalysts for change as we educate teens on how to use social media: Educate them to become savvy social-media users.

This is a little cheating as some of these features are new so you could not have known!! Google Slides is one of my favorites. I use it to have students GIVE ME information rather than get information. Truly transformative for teaching. When inserting video you are no longer restricted to YouTube videos.
