As the national attention to fake news and the debate over what to do about it continue, one place many are looking for solutions is in the classroom. Since a recent Stanford study showed that students at practically all grade levels can't determine fake news from the real stuff, the push to teach media literacy has gained new momentum.

From the various news stories and blog posts recently about "fake news," I have culled the following recommendations and advice. Facebook has been under fire for spreading fake news stories that may have helped Donald Trump win the presidential election. Over the weekend, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg said the social media giant did not affect the election results. "More than 99 percent of what people see is authentic," he wrote on the social network's website over the weekend.
