Place for Interactive Whiteboard Lesson Plans
  •
This site could be very useful and time saving for teachers that have interactive whiteboards in their classrooms. This resource is mainly for teachers use as it provides resources the teacher can use in his/her classroom for students. My knowledge is very limited on interactive whiteboards so I am not aware of any similar resources. I do believe this resources would be extremely beneficial for a teacher who recently had a interactive whiteboard installed in his/her classroom. Great site Joel, thanks for sharing.

Interactive white boards and SMART Boards are becoming an incredibly prevalent piece of technology within our classrooms. This site would be extremely helpful for those teachers with this piece of technology in their classrooms. Since these boards have so much to offer many teachers would not know how to use them except as a glorifed screen projector. In this site are sites that give details of games and templates a teacher could use, how to take care of the board, lessons plans, and most importantly training and tutorials for how to use the them. This last one I think is the most important feature of the site because teachers will not use these boards unless they know how to. These boards are primarily for the teachers to use with their students, however I have seen cases where the students were given the opportunity to use them. Other resources that could go with these boards are ipads. Ipads have the ability to hook up with these boards which gives the teachers other apps to use with the board.

I first want to say that I agree that this site will help teachers become better teachers by using this site. As I look at myself, I don't think this site will help me, but this is because I have a fundamental issue with IWBs. The problem I have with IWBs is that they promote teacher-centric instruction. Typically, if the teacher decides to use any of the features of the IWB, they use it to replicate current practices. For example, I worked with a school who held up a Kindergarten calendar activity as the most effective teacher using the IWB. However, this activity looked identical to the paper based activity that was sitting in the back of the room. So while students appear to be engaged, it is novelty engagement which eventually wears off. So for me, IWBs need to be able to bring something new to the table, and really they haven't yet to my knowledge. Creating flip charts or notebooks is great, but really if the goal is to be student centered, IWBs don't get it done. I'll step down from my soapbox now... This resource is certainly one that will be used by the teacher, since this is a lesson planning website. Promethean Planet is another great resource for finding lessons to use on your IWB, but beware. There are many good lessons, but a large number of bad ones. I'd find one that looks good and then make it better by personalizing it to you and your students' needs.

I must admit, I have no experience with interactive whiteboards. However, I thought this site would be an extremely useful resource for teachers utilizing this technology in their classroom. It provides several activities, lesson plans, and much more!
  •
FINALLY! Someone has created a website about how to use SmartBoards. I have gone into too many classrooms where the teacher does not utilize this awesome technology because it simply "doesn't fit into the lesson plan". This is a great find and I am glad you shared it with us! Thanks Joel!

I couldn't agree more with Amanda! This site is definitely helpful, and I will have to pass it along. Thanks a lot for sharing this with us.

PDF describing the many benefits and apps for iPad learning.

My mom just got an iPad for her 5th grade classroom. I'm going to have to pass this along to her too. It's very honest and seems to be pretty much unbiased. Also, gave a lot of ideas on how to question other tools as well as the iPad. Thanks for sharing!
  •
I agree with Haley! This is very unbiased and seems to show the truth about things to do with an iPad. I think that this may be very useful in the upcoming years because schools are moving from computers to iPads to stay with the evolving technologies. Thanks for posting this!
  •
Thanks for the resource. we just bought 1600 ipads for our school so I am excited to read what the article says about apps and learning.
  •
This article was very informative on how to use iPads. I learned a lot from this article and I will definitely use it in my future! Thanks!

Cool Cat Teacher Blog - 2 views

I learned about Vicki Davis from Professor Zeitz. We had the chance to speak with her through a Skype session and hear all about the different ways that she incorporates technology in her classroom. This is a link to her blog's homepage which gives a list of her many blogs and includes a description of each. Not only is their information about technology use in the classroom but information on other educational topics like current events. This is a great resource for a teacher to have access to because it is written by a fellow teacher. Many educational topics are discussed that some teachers may not have as much background knowledge on that will certainly help them gain further insight into the matter and bring what they learn into their own classrooms.

Vicki Davis is an amazing educator and her blog is a great resource for teachers. I have used it quite a lot after first learning about it after attending an ITEC conference where she was presenting. Actually, she shared one of my blog posts on her blog after the conference so that was pretty cool! This is certainly a teacher focused blog, because she shares her teaching perspectives and provides a number of helpful resources for teachers to use in the classroom. There are a number of blogs like these that focus on developing teacher. One would be my blog: http://dmourlam.wordpress.com (yes, this plug has no shame!).
  •
I love Vicki Davis and her work! I have already been following her blogs and resources and have found them to be very useful in my studies on technology in education. She has tons of blogs on every issue you could ever think of! Thank you for reminding me of her again!
  •
I was not familiar with Vicki's blog prior to reading your bookmark. After spending a few minutes looking through her posts, I now understand why all of you have so many wonderful things to say about her! I will definitely be using this blog as a resource for the future. Thanks for sharing!
  •
Megan, this is a great blog. I like that her blogs are short and to the point. Many educational blogs scare people off becasue of all the information shown on the page. I loved looking around her blog and finding neat things. I also think it is great that you got to Skype with her! Thanks!
  •
Megan, I also learned about Vicki from Dr. Z! She is doing some remarkable work with her teaching and with her Flat Classroom work. She really is an inspiring teacher. I remember the Skype session we had with her, it was extremely generous of her to give her time to talk with us.

Changing Iowa - 2 views

  •
Changing Iowa is a site every Iowa teacher or soon to be teacher should be aware of, especially if they have any plans to do any instruction online. A tremendous resources for adult learners.
  •
This is now becoming a post modern issue. The movement towards on-line learning in high school environments has put up a fence between students and educators. The idea of non-physical connections in a classroom has its consequences, maybe less in that arena (cognitive learning) but perhaps in the emotional arena where growth is apparent also. Interesting debate going on at present regarding this issue.
  •
This was a very interesting blog. I think this is very useful for future and current teachers. They can read about current issues in Iowa and this will also help them to see what needs to be done in order to make a better learning experience for students.

I plan on teaching in the Kansas City area, possibly even in Lee's Summit, so it's nice to see some work that the KC area is doing in education. Also, this site looks very thorough and applicable. Thanks for finding this!
  •
I really enjoyed looking through this site. There is a lot of good information and I look forward to using this in my career. I love how everything is focused on differentiation because it is so hard to have that in a classroom. It definitely takes a lot of time and effort!
  •
This seems like a great resource for teachers. It encompasses several topics, from learning styles to integrating technology. I'm anxious to spend a little more time navigating through the site. Thanks for sharing!

This is brief article on flipping the classroom. Links in the article allows the reader to get more information on flipped classrooms.
  •
I have heard about classrooms like these but didn't know that they had a special name. I think that why this worked so well in this school was because they had no other option so they had to make something work. It ended up being a great model that so many other teachers, schools, and districts can follow. Thanks for sharing!

This website is quite efficient as a way for students to hand in assignments to teachers. This is a tool I would explore using in my future classroom. Teachers can also use this website to create their own pages. This is especially helpful as a different kind of instructional tool. Students can go on the internet and view the next day's lesson on the internet. This is the way of the future and we will definitely see more this.

The truth about flipped learning | eSchool News - 1 views

  •
For many people, flipped instruction is nothing more than making or posting videos and then doing the homework in class. However, this is a bad assumption as this article demonstrates. This article goes through a number of assumptions and their subsequent misconceptions, thus providing a clearer picture of what flipped instruction is and how it can be a very beneficial mechanism for helping students learn.
  •
This article is an outstanding resource for teachers and principals who are studying the concept of flipping the classroom. A principal could the article be used for a professional learning activity with his/her staff. Individual teachers could use it if they were considering flipping their classroom. I have posted another site/article in our Diigo group on flipping titled, How the Flipped Classroom Is Radically Transforming Learning. The article is written by Jon Bergmann and Aaron Sams, who authored the book, Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student In Every Class Every Day.

This is a great site for teachers and students to use. As we are moving forward to more green solutions in schools, this site leads us in the right direction with paperless notesharing that is much more convenient than copying with a pen and paper. Teachers can use this site as a way of sharing notes with their students instead of sending a lot of emails. Students can also use this website to catch up on notes they missed if they were not in attendance for a class period. I would definitely use this website in my future classroom.

Teachertube - 1 views

  •
This is like YouTube, but for teachers. Most of the content is safe for the schools and is beneficial because it is what other teachers around the world are doing. This collaborative measure is going to increase communication among teachers both nation and world wide. This web 2.0 tool is one of the better ones I have seen because it is what teachers are experiencing in their classrooms.
  •
Teacher Tube is pretty popular, and for good reason. It can be very risky to search YouTube to find a video for the first time in the middle of a lesson, but using Teacher Tube takes the worry away. The material is usually always safe to use, although searching before hand is still a good idea!
