The Media History Digital Library. Online Access to the Histories of Cinema, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound. We are a non-profit initiative dedicated to digitizing collections of classic media periodicals that belong in the public domain for full public access. The project is supported by owners of materials who loan them for scanning, and donors who contribute funds to cover the cost of scanning. We have currently scanned over 800,000 pages, and that number is growing. Our Collections feature Extensive Runs of several important trade papers and fan magazines.

"Public school libraries have always served an admirable purpose in education. In an indirect way, K-12 libraries have given students support in learning endeavors and been a go-to spot for information. With that being said, as the first Internet-generation rises through the public school ranks, libraries need big changes to remain relevant. It is not enough to simply "be there;" school libraries need to reach out to students and pull them in with helpful resources that combine traditional and contemporary theories in literacy."

A new study from the Pew Research Center on young Americans' library habits defies the conventional narrative of today's youth as a generation who have abandoned print. Despite being heavy Internet users, the press release states that "Americans under age 30 are strong supporters of traditional library services," including in-person assistance and-yes-books.

Hunt Library This isn't your childhood library. The Hunt Library at North Carolina State University is beautiful. The main floor looks more like a sleek Apple showroom than a stuffy library. And instead of a Genius Bar, there's an Ask Me alcove, where you can get help on everything from laptops to flash drives.

Throughout the year, the website will be available to everyone, with open access to lists of titles, short previews, and reviews, all of which will help librarians and teachers find and select new content. Coming Fall 2013: A Nationwide Library Staff Picks List The top ten books published this month that librarians across the US love.

Because 99% of the time, the books are better than the movies. Some of these film adaptations, though, look really promising.

A New York based education start-up is rolling out "more than 1,000 book titles, most of them classics, with video gaming at the heart of the reading enterprise....Foremost among the new titles: Lexica, a massive role-playing game for young teens that invites them to interact with characters from great novels and read the books outside of class if they want to get ahead in the game."

"Walk into any bookstore or library, and you'll find shelves and shelves of hugely popular novels and book series for kids. But research shows that as young readers get older, they are not moving to more complex books. High-schoolers are reading books written for younger kids, and teachers aren't assigning difficult classics as much as they once did."
