Many learners enter further and higher education lacking the skills needed to apply digital technologies to education. As 90% of new jobs will require excellent digital skills, improving digital literacy is an essential component of developing employable graduates.

JISC Digital Media exists to help the UK's FE and HE communities embrace and maximise the use of digital media - and to achieve solutions that are innovative, practical and cost effective.

At the JISC RSC North West 'Want your learners to be more independent?' event I felt I had my eyes well and truly opened to the benefits of, and dare I say it, the necessity of embedding information literacy skills into learning provision - whatever form that provision that may take.

AR can be used to bring still pictures to life, point the camera on a mobile device at a still image and it will trigger a video. By following a few steps described here (with examples) you can create your own learning materials.   Alternatively AR can be triggered by location. Point your device at a pre-detemined location to retrieve a video or information you have prepared for learning.

The Scottish e-Assessment Forum, which is organised and facilitated by the JISC RSC Scotland, launched on the 24th November 2011. The forum came about due to discussions I had with people from further and higher education institutions across Scotland, where it became clear that there was a need and desire for dedicated time to discuss e-Assessment and share practice.
