The Web 1.0 concept was simple: web pages linking to web pages. Then came Web 2.0 - a powerful movement from web pages to web applications. Web 2.0 applications have evolved into often slick viewports into proprietary or personal collections of information. This means they still primarily house data in silos inaccessible to and disconnected from the larger world, and most importantly, from each other. But as we approach 2009, the clear outlines of the new web are forming. Some call this next generation the Semantic Web, but we think that term is confining, and so, instead, we refer to it as simply Web 3.0. The new web is moving beyond connecting pages to interconnecting data objects, concepts, and things. Ultimately Web 3.0 is really about creating technology that more accurately mirrors how we see and think about the world around us.

Teacher Libranian resources for using Web 2.0 tools

This wiki was created for school library media specialists by Dr. Donna Baumbach and Dr. Judy Lee, University of Central Florida. The purpose is to provide information about some of the new web-based tools (Web 2.0) and how they can be used and are being used by school library media specialists and their students and teachers. Much of the information--including identifying a need for this kind of information--is the result of a survey conducted in 2008 of over 600 school library media specialists about their knowledge and use of web-based tools in library media programs.

A partir del 2004, la penetración de servicios Web 2.0 a través de Internet, posibilitó una segunda generación de comunidades basadas en la Web y de servicios residentes en ella; tales como sitios que permiten generar redes sociales que facilitan la creatividad, la colaboración y que ofrezcan a los usuarios la posibilidad de compartir entre ellos contenidos y otros recursos, sin importar su diversidad o ubicación geográfica. Uno de los servicios más exitosos de la Web 2.0 son los denominados Wikis. Basta con mencionar a Wikipedia, la enciclopedia libre y de construcción colectiva, como el ícono de lo que representa las posibilidades de esta tecnología informática en Internet.

La Web 2.0, con sus aplicaciones y servicios, posibilitó interconexiones sociales que, hasta hace pocos años, solo se daban en historias de ciencia ficción. La Folcsonomía es una de estas interconexiones y se relaciona directamente con dos conceptos que la posibilitan: Marcadores sociales y Etiquetado. El concepto de Folcsonomía, novedoso y complejo, difícil de precisar y definir, únicamente se da cuando confluyen el uso de aplicaciones de marcadores sociales y la actividad de etiquetado por parte de los usuarios de Internet. Por lo tanto, para entenderla debemos tener claridad en lo referente a cada uno de sus dos componentes.
