    This site looks like a very good resource for helping teachers bring project-based learning to their classrooms. I've heard one of the facilitators of the site speak at a conference, Dayna Laur, and she is very dynamic. The "Pick a Project" page gives you ideas while the "Click a Class" page will help you build and customize a project for your classroom. Johnson offers a real-life example in which he fixed a broken lawnmower by using what was believed to be useless junk stored in his garage. The junk -- like information stored in the brain -- was necessary to find the solution, or resolve the problem.

  • Establish rules for online use with your kids and be diligent. Screen what your kids plan to post before they post it. Seemingly innocuous information, such as a school mascot and town photo, could be put together to reveal where the author goes to school. Ask yourself (and instruct your kids to do the same) if you are you comfortable showing any of the content to a stranger. If in doubt, have them take it out. Evaluate the blogging service and find out if it offers private, password-protected blogs. Save the web address of your child's blog and review it on a regular basis. Check out other blogs to find positive examples for your kids to emulate.

    Although I am a droid...I am intrigued by this app - especially the thought of older students actually downloading the standards for their grade. What a great way to manage their own learning and hold teachers and administrators accountable!
