When students create a movie or interactive slide show to tell their story, learning becomes personal. Students can improve their writing, show creativity, and have a voice.

Common Core's Curriculum Maps in English Language Arts translate the new Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten through 12th grade into unit maps that teachers can use to plan their year, craft their own more detailed curriculum, and create lesson plans.

I don't teach 10th grade...but I just looked at the map and it is entirely different than anything our school has ever addressed...

And, please know that our district is in the infancy stages of transitioning to the common core standards. Mrs. Groller and the principals have a plan for systematic implementation. So, nothing has been decided "exactly" at this point. Wonderful thing is . . . we are building the first conversations around common core for our district, pulling together a lot of great resources, with annotations thanks to Diigo I might add, and will be the most knowledgeable as we move forward. It's always good to be in that spot! At the end of this week, I'm going to blog about our teAch21 Diigo research project on the common core and share it with the rest of the staff. Team Pennsylvania Foundation has entered into an agreement that utilizes the expertise of the state's 29 Intermediate Units to help implement the statewide Common Core standards to effectively improve teacher instruction and student learning. "Teachers are the number one factor in improving student achievement," said Matt Zieger, Team PA's Interim President & CEO.

This will be our main source for awhile.

Changes are on the horizon for Pennsylvania's graduating class of 2015, as the Department of Education is implementing new graduation requirements, assessment tests and grade-level standards. Current standards include course completion and grades, completion of a culminating project and results of local assessments aligned with the academic standards.
