I can't decide if the Army is overreacting and the soldiers are just trying to find an outlet for self expression, or if the soldiers are in the wrong. What do you think? Why?

When you join an organization which stands for such values as a countries military does you are accepting the responsibility of acting appropriate to the military's code. By posting those sexual photos the soldiers are portraying a code of conduct which doesn't follow proper military guide lines. It is bad for the military's look when highly trained soldiers are acting inappropriately on a social network. The morals of the military comes into questioning when their trained soldiers arn't expressing military behavior.

I think there is a certain level of conforming needed in order for a military to work properly. This may be a little excessive though..

I think that people have to act appropriately when they join the military but with that being said it isn't a CHOICE for Israeli teenagers so they have to join even if they're still immature kids. I think there should be a degree of leniency for them considering they still are teenagers and sometimes just have to act out and be a kid.

I think this excessive, expecially as Max siad they don't get a choice. Its also crazy that they punished someone for a tweet

I feel like this is excessive, especially considering that all Israelis (unless you're an only child) have to serve in the military for at least 3 years.

This kind of behavior is definitely not appropriate for something as esteemed as the national army. Normally, a woman (or man) should not be judged for how they choose to dress or what they show on Facebook or other social media sites, but this is an exception. There needs to be an element of humbleness when you are in the army, whether you joined of your own free will or not. Like Max said, I think that because they are young, the punishment should not be as severe as it may be for someone older and more mature, but that doesn't mean there should be no punishment at all.

I think that when you are posting things relevant to an institution (like pictures in barracks wearing combat equipment) is a representation of the institution, and the military as that institution has the right to discipline the soldiers for giving the military a bad image. This isn't about soldiers being punished for revealing pictures they took at home with their friends, and if it were it would be different. As it is, I think the soldiers were in the wrong.

In most normal situations the photos posted would be perfectly acceptable, but with the military establishment I feel that the repercussions were called for. By posting those photos, the girls create a poor impression of the military, which is supposed to have certain standards as a government enforcement agency. Anything that threatens the reputation of the military, I feel, has the right to be punished. A military cannot be taken seriously if its reputation does not proceed it.

The Israeli military has the right to set its own regulations and guidelines for how its soldiers should behave... to a point. First, there needs to be equal reprimanding, with equal penalties, for any soldier who goes against the standards established. Secondly, I think it might be too much to try and monitor the soldiers if they act out in ways/times that don't directly connect them to their military duty. Considering the fact that Israeli youth are mostly required to join the army, I'm not sure if its fair to hold them to the standards of that job 24/7, and in areas where their military position is irrelevant. That said, the posing girls and the dancing guy were obviously connected to their posts during their pictures/video, respectively, so I think that this connection does warrant some form of reprimand.
