News - Springhill Care Group: Effective Communication with the Elderly - 1 views

  •
    http://news.springhillcaregroup.net/
It is quite a challenge sometimes to talk or to communicate to elderly because you may need to consider and deal with differences in ages, ideals, priorities and perhaps even hearing or mental cognition issues on top. Don't close your mind and take it for consideration that your elderly friend or loved one may have been raised differently. Generation gap is another issue why it can be hard to communicate with the elderly but once understood, you will find many wonderful things to learn from one another if you just take the time to listen.

When talking to the elderly, look them in the eye. We all know that looking in the eye when talking to someone is a sign of respect. That is a general rule and that has always been and forever will be. An honest person will never be afraid to look you in the eye and it is also a sign of a genuine interest in the person you are conversing with.

Do not use or maybe you could turn off you mobile devices, more often than not they do not understand these things and they will feel destructed by it and worse will feel like they are playing second fiddle to a piece of equipment that can lead to them to shut down and lose interest in talking to you.

Always be respectful, this applies to everyone. You might confuse this with being sweet and condescending but these two are different from respect. Listen to them, or maybe if fitting you can place your hand on their hand or arm. Remember, they are your elderly and not your children so never call them names like, 'sweetie', 'honey', or 'darling', that will be rude!

Never ever shout at them, if they have troubles hearing you or the surrounding get them hearing aide. They may pull away from communicating with anyone and even become bitter if this is taken for granted. And they may not admit this so it is up to you to notice if they cannot hear properly anymore or have them checked regularly.

Never make them feel that being there for

China-US Standoff over Dissident Chen - blogger - 0 views

  •
The decision of US to let the blind human rights activist Chen Guangcheng return into China's fold following his escape from authorities is straining ties between the two countries as diplomatic dialogues opened in Beijing.

The 40-year old Chen who is now considered a dissident became an international human rights inspiration to many Chinese after earning the ire of the local government for exposing forced abortions in line with the country's one-child policy. The self-taught lawyer took to the US embassy after his escape, apparently to ask for help but was eventually ushered into the Beijing Hospital.

Obama seeks to widen support base with Florida seniors, Hispanics - blogger - 0 views

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Kicking off a two-day Sunshine State barnstorm Saturday, President Barack Obama tapped into key parts of what he hopes will be a winning Florida coalition similar to but larger than the one he assembled in 2008.
At stops in Seminole and Kissimmee, Fla., the president, who won the Sunshine State by just 50.9 percent in 2008, targeted the votes of senior citizens, warning that their Medicare benefits would be harmed by a plan put forward by his Republican opponents Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

Japan toilet maker unveils 'poop-powered' motorbike - blogger - zimbio - 0 views

  •
TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's best-known toilet maker on Wednesday unveiled a "poop-powered" motorcycle that can travel as far as 300km on a tank filled with animal waste.

Billed as the world's first waste-powered vehicle, the three-wheeler has a toilet in place of a regular seat and huge paper roll at the back.

But as a young female model climbed aboard for a test drive Wednesday, toilet giant TOTO was quick to point out that she would not supply the "gas".

"The biogas it uses as fuel is not made from human waste. It's made from livestock waste and sewage," Kenji Fujita, a company spokesman, told reporters in a Tokyo suburb.

UNC Legal Studies Research Paper No. 2018589

    Abstract:
This essay considers how the 2010 Supreme Court decision in Skilling v. United States, which limited the situations in which mail and wire fraud cases may be premised on violations of the "intangible right to honest services," has the potential to alter the future of health care fraud litigation. While Skilling is widely perceived to have closed the door to several types of common mail and wire fraud prosecutions, this may not turn out to be the case in health care. In health care, the renewed focus on kickbacks as evidence of an honest services breach instead may dovetail nicely with both the Obama Administration's emphasis on criminal health care fraud enforcement and the jurisprudence of the Medicare & Medicaid Anti-Kickback Statute. This kind of leverage may prove very difficult for prosecutors to resist, and most certainly will require changes in the way the health law bar approaches common Anti-Kickback concerns.

International Travel Health Insurance Tips - the Springhill Group - tumblr - 0 views

  •
When you are traveling around the world these days there is a lot you need to be concerned with. International travel health Insurance is one of them. When you travel internationally you never know what can happen to you, but you need to prepare for the unexpected.

If your health insurance does cover international care, then it may have a time limit. Thirty days is a common limit on care for international travel health insurance. Again, you want to make sure on this because if you get special insurance for international travel, you don't want to get duplicate insurance.

If for some reason you become very ill and need to stay in a hospital for an extended period the current health insurance you have may not cover you for a longer period.

If you are a senior citizen, it's important to note that Medicare doesn't cover you abroad.

According to the U.S. Center For Disease Control and Prevention half of U.S. travelers abroad will have some sort of health problem.

There are many types of international travel insurance plans. There are short term international travel health insurance plans, there are long term travel health insurance plans and there are plans that deal with non medical issues. These issues may be non medical to begin with but they can make you feel sick later. An example of non medical travel insurance is trip cancelation for international travel. read complete article

London 2012 Olympics: badminton eight from China, Indonesia and South Korea expelled - ... - 0 views

  •
TELEGRAPH UK - Four pairs in the women's doubles were disqualified from the Olympics for underperforming in the final group stages on Tuesday night as they deliberately tried to lose by spraying shots wide or into the net to secure an easier quarter-final draw.
The players, the Chinese world champions Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang, Greysia Poli and Meiliana Jauhari of Indonesia and two South Korean pairs, Jung Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na, and Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min Jung, were jeered by the crowd.
The organising committee for the Games will not be offering refunds to spectators who attended on Tuesday evening, despite Lord Coe describing the incident as "depressing" and asking: "Who wants to sit through something like that?"
Officials from the sport's governing body conducted a frantic round of meetings as they hastily arranged a disciplinary panel.

Clinton said in her opening statement, "The United States believes that no state can legitimately deny the universal rights that belong to every human being - or punish those who exercise them. A China that protects the rights of all its citizens will be a stronger, more prosperous partner for the United States."

Dai Bingguo issued a rebuttal on behalf of China, saying, "I wish to point out in particular the fundamental way to manage state-to-state relations is to abide by the basic norms of international relations, namely to respect China's sovereignty, core interests and choice of social system."

Meanwhile, Chinese President Hu Jintao made his point known in his opening speech during the 4th round of US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogues. He remarked that US and China should know how to respect each other despite their disagreements and also appealed to its counterpart to break the conventional belief that superpowers are bound to engage in conflicts.

According to a senior official's statement to Springhill Care Group, Chen has indeed went into the embassy that day and has requested for medical treatment for his injured foot. American medical personnel have then conducted medical tests and made appropriate treatment during the time he was there.

Immediately after the incident, the Chinese government has expressed its disapproval about the entire affair, demanding an apology from the US for taking Chen in.

"What the U.S. side should do now is neither to continue misleading the public and making every excuse to shift responsibility and conceal its wrongdoing, nor to interfere in the domestic affairs of China," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin.

This incident came just when the US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is visiting Beijing in a meeting with Chinese officials on security and trade talks. And although no one mentioned Chen's name, it is evident in their statements that the incident is on the spotlight as the 2 nations struggle to maintain common ground.

Springhill Group: DPRK jams GPS of ROK Airlines l Blogger - Zimbio - The-looser-it-s-me - 0 views

  •
GPS jamming signals coming from North Korea has forced South

Korea to order its military and civilian air transports to switch

on alternative navigational devices to avoid disruption.

A statement from the ministry has confirmed that they were able

to warn airlines and pilots of the 241 affected South Korean

flights along with the 11 foreign airlines like Thai Airways,

AirPhil, FedEx, Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways. But

even as the GPS jamming signals continued, South Korea sees no

    serious threat to navigational safety.

Korea Communications Commission confirmed that the GPS

jamming signals have been coming from a city on North Korea

side of the border. "We've traced the jamming signals to the

direction of Kaesong," a commission deputy director told

    Springhill Group.

According to the transport agency, planes that suffered from

GPS signal jamming were instructed to use the alternative

navigation systems and were not delayed in their schedules. The

signal jamming appears to be focused on air traffic at Gimpo

and Incheon airports, both of which are around 30 miles from

    the border.

Despite the GPS disruption, Springhill Group reports that there

was no serious threat to flight safety as airplanes are capable of

using other navigation devices like inertial navigation system

    and very-high-frequency omni-directional range (VOR).

Meanwhile, military communications and transportation were

not greatly affected as they do not primarily depend on the GPS

    system.

S. Korea Different From Japan in Property Bubble, Say Experts | LoanSafe - 0 views

  •
A group of real estate experts downplayed the possibility of a Japan-like property bubble burst at a forum hosted by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.

Participants who shared the view that South Korea's property market is different from Japan included professor Choi Hee-gap from Ajou University.

Choi said that Japan suffered a property market crash - ?which was initiated by enterprises in the 1980s? - in the wake of policymakers? rapid hikes in interest rates in the 1990s.

?Unlike the Japanese case, Korea saw the expansion of the realty market on the back of active investment of households," he argued.

?Further, thanks to financial authorities? strict regulations on mortgage loans over the past several years, a bubble in housing prices is not so big."

But he added that the government should implement detailed measures to cope with the aging society and resolve worries over a sharp drop in housing prices.

Kim Deok-ryeh, a researcher at Korea Housing Institute, said whether the sluggish real estate market will be revitalised depends on ?the pending bill on easing regulations, the coming presidential elections and the eurozone fiscal crisis?.

Among the participants were officials from the Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs, Hyundai Research Institute, Citizens? Coalition for Economic Justice and the Korea Housing Builders Association.

About 180 business leaders also participated in the KCCI forum as observers.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Research Institute recently warned that Korea may follow in the footsteps of Spain and Ireland as the country is now past its demographic window, the period when the percentage of people able to work reaches its peak.

?We must be mindful of the possibility of a property bubble burst as a sharp fall in the proportion of the working age population cuts demand for real estate," an HRI analyst said in the report titled ?Time to Prepare for Demographic Bo

SOUTH KOREA - Shake-up for entrance exam - 0 views

CONSULTING GROUP OF SPRINGHILL SOUTH KOREA - A plan to alter the subjects of the lowest level South Korean Public Service exam in favour of high school graduates has been met with opposition.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security has announced that it intends making the currently compulsory college level subjects optional while adding high school subjects as electives.
The announcement came after President Lee Myung-bak said the percentage of high school graduates in the Public Service should be increased.
A ministry spokesperson said that beginning in 2013, English and Korean history would be compulsory test subjects, while test-takers could select two more subjects either at university or high school level.
"The plan aims to expand the opportunities for high school graduates to enter the public service sector," the spokesperson said.
Those preparing to take the test have spoken out against the plan in a Government web forum.
"The time and money I spent for the past three years on studying will go to waste," one said.
"We will have tax officers who don't know accounting and prosecutors who have no idea about criminal law."
Others have spoken out in support of the plan however, saying the high unemployment rate of graduates from provincial colleges and universities was a serious problem that needed to be addressed.
Supporters said recruitment for the lowest level Public Service jobs was originally aimed at high school graduates.
"Young individuals who have the basic requirements can be promoted to higher positions as they learn from experience," one said.
"The current method may lead to unfavourable consequences such as hiring incompetent Public Servants.
"Accordingly, it would be better to adopt a quota-system for high school graduates rather than changing the subjects."Seoul, 7 May 2012
