Talented Children: Gattaca Calling - 0 views

Imagine the scene. It is the future, and scientists have learned how to 'read' human DNA with such accuracy that they are able to predict our future health, as well as the careers that will be most suited to our abilities. The genetically elite are identified early and groomed for lives of leadership and brilliance. The biologically impoverished are relegated to the performance of the most menialtasks.

MATCH PREVIEW | IPL 2018 | MATCH 30 | CSK vs DD | FANFIGHT - 0 views

  •
CSK vs DD: "Consistency isn't rocket science, it's responsibility". Chennai Super Kings like always have been consistent in this year's IPL as well. They're currently 2nd on the league table. A loss to Mumbai Indians in their previous game proved yet again that in the IPL, uncertainty is the norm. They take on DD in the 30th game of the IPL and this for the top spot on the league table. DD, on the other hand, after a resounding victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders will walk into this game with higher confidence and a hope that their last match display wasn't a chance or a coincidence. Shreyas Iyer played an absolute cracker of an innings in his first game as a skipper. Iyer's leadership also was mighty impressive, but he'll not let complacency settle in. The Mumbai lad will want to put his head down, take one game at a time and hope that all his captaincy decisions work in DD's favour. CSK vs DD, a crucial game for DD for an ascent up the table and for CSK a chance to get one step closer to yet another playoff qualification.

Virat Kohli retires from Test cricket - 0 views

  •
Virat Kohli, famous Indian batsman, has declared his immediate retirement from Test cricket. In 123 Test matches, the former captain of India amassed 9230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 hundreds. As cricket moved to three formats and a vibrant franchise ecosystem, Kohli also left as India's most successful Test captain and a passionate champion for the longest format. "It's been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket," Kohli said on Instagram on Monday, May 12. To be honest, I had no idea the path this format would lead me down. It has put me to the test, molded me, and given me lifelong lessons. "Playing in whites carries a very particular meaning. The long days, the quiet grind, and the little moments that nobody notices but that stick with you forever. It's difficult for me to leave this format, but it feels right. It has returned far more than I could have imagined after I gave it everything I had. "I'm leaving with a heart full of appreciation for the game, the teammates I played with, and everyone who helped me feel like I was seen. "I'll always grin when I think back on my Test career. #269, concluding." Following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, Kohli's decision to leave Test cricket marks a significant change that Indian cricket hasn't seen since the departures of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman in 2012 and then Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Months after being a member of a squad that won the ODI World Cup, Kohli made his Test debut in 2011 against the West Indies at Sabina Park. After a difficult first year of adjusting to the longer format, he settled in in 2012 with a brilliant 116 against Australia in Adelaide, a place that would hold great meaning for him. He returned to the South Australian capital for India's subsequent tour in 2014, where he led the team as a stand-in captain and scored twin hundreds in a close loss. Following MS Dhoni's retirement in Melbourne a few weeks later, Kohl

Manchester United's March Madness! - 0 views

  •
A week ago (as I write this) Manchester United looked imperious and unassailable at the top of the Premier League. Two straight defeats and the story is quite different. While they still hold a lead in the Premier League, a Liverpool win tomorrow would cut that back to one point. The real story is not arithmetical, however, but psychological. Liverpool, on the back of convincing wins against Man United and Real Madrid, will take fresh confidence from their rivals' defeat at Fulham today, and revitalise their belief that they can still win the title. Chelsea, having lost to Tottenham today, failed to capitalise on their opportunity to close the gap.

Aptitude + Attitude = Altitude - 0 views

  •
There's a growing consensus in the academic and popular literature that our attitude and our mindset are more important than our technical capability that make a difference to our success. As Zig Ziglar puts it, "Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude."

An interesting blog, and ensuing debate, on whether or not coaches need to be experts on their sport, and whether that means being an ex-player or athlete.

Are we witnessing the end of the British football manager? - 0 views

  •
This week has seen two football managers from the English Premier League (West Ham and Newcastle United, respectively) quit their posts. In both cases the issue appears to be their loss of control over transfers, and perhaps other aspects of the club management.Does this signal the end of the British football manager?

Sport Psychologists - Break into Business Organizations - 6 views

  •
Many people have attempted to transition between both sport and business. There are examples of successful sports performers going on to have successful careers as entrepreneurs, but what about going from sport psychology (or science) to business? I get asked about this all the time, as I work in business (but am qualified in sport psych) and in future will direct people to this article!

Good to Great with Jose Mourinho - 8 views

I've just read a very interesting piece on the BBC website about Jose Mourinho and what drives him as a leader. I read it and found many parallels with Jim Collins book "Good to Great".
