Many people have attempted to transition between both sport and business. There are examples of successful sports performers going on to have successful careers as entrepreneurs, but what about going from sport psychology (or science) to business? Anxiety Interpretation (Anxiety Direction) vs Reversal Theory in Sport Psychology? - 0 views

  •
I received my copy of The Sport and Exercise Scientist in the post today, and gave the cover the usual cursory glance. My scan picked up an interesting question: "Is studying anxiety interpretations useful for sport and exercise psychologists?". So I thumbed through and found a rather interesting debate between two sport psychologists, staged by email and reprinted for the benefit of others. The debate gave me heart and caused me frustration, because while it opened up an important avenue for research and practice, they both missed the fact that a theory has been in place for over 25 years that adequately addresses all of the issues raised. That theory is Reversal Theory (Apter).

Master Your Mind, the Conditioned Reflex - 1 views

  •
There is a single point at which the fields of psychology, neuroscience, Eastern spirituality, and martial arts converge. In neuroscience, it is called "conditioned reflex." In psychology, it is "unconscious competence." In meditative traditions (especially Zen Buddhism), it is called "no-mindedness." In martial arts, the exact same concept is often referred to as "mind like water."

Mental skills personal experiment (4): Back on track - 0 views

This is the third day I follow the whole plan, including breathing exercises, meditation, zhan zhuan and the scheduled workout. The first day is always a bit hard after I stop for more than a week, but I believe it is pretty much like training in general: people who have practiced before have some sort of "practical memory" and they recover their ability fast. In strength training, people have different (yet not sanctioned by the scientific community) names for this: muscle memory, neural memory and others.

Putt With Your Brain - Part 1 - 0 views

  •
If Mark Twain thinks golf is "a good walk spoiled", then putting must be a brief pause to make you reconsider ever walking again. With about 50% of our score being determined on the green, we are constantly in search of the "secret" to getting the little white ball to disappear into the cup.Lucky for us, there is no shortage of really smart people also looking for the answer. The first 8 months of 2008 have been no exception, with a golf cart full of research papers on just the topic of putting.
