  • July 26, 2008 Listening, respect and teamwork Filed under: , — Scripting News @ 5:15 pm Scoble writes about Silicon Valley VC disease. I almost wrote a comment there saying that I've tried many times over many years to get VCs to invest in ideas I had for products, some of which turned out to be quite successful, but I thought better of it. Why single out the VCs, when the problem is much broader. Here's what it is, from my point of view.

June 26, 2009 API showcase: Linked Galaxy Sitting on such a powerful contextual API that returns semantic data is never easy for creative people. We announced a while ago that we output semantic data as part of our API results, meaning that we connect identified concepts to Linked Data cloud. Databases that we link to include Freebase, Semantic CrunchBase and DBpedia. In order to explore one of the possibilities that this brings to developers, @andraz created Linked Galaxy project. Linked Galaxy is a tool that uses semantic entities that were identified by Zemanta in given text and connects it to DBpedia and Freebase by following connections between them. This way it's possible to uncover underlying connections between the terms that might not be otherwise obvious to the writer. They are presented in a graph, making it easy to quickly scan the output. A text about Hudson River landing earlier this year produces the following first order graph from DBpedia:

Gotham Gal is one of my wife's favorites she gives you Scrapple from the Apple "Scrapple from the Apple" is a bebop composition by Charlie Parker, commonly regonized today as a jazz standard, written in F major. The song borrows its chord progression from "Honeysuckle Rose", a common practice for Parker, as he based many of his successful tunes over already well-known chord changes.tabbloid_2009-01-10_0901-gotham-gal I use Scrapple from the Apple Above Since Gotham Gal has among other things great food features Now Scrapple , Scrapple is a savory mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour. The mush is formed into a loaf, and slices of the scrapple are then fried before serving. Scraps of meat left over from butchering, not used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste. Scrapple is best known as a regional American food of Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. It was founded in 1845 by George Wilkes, a journalist and sometime transcontinental railroad booster.[1] The editor for most of the 19th century was Richard K. Fox, an immigrant from Ireland. Ostensibly devoted to matters of interest to the police, it was more often a tabloid-like publication, with lurid coverage of murders, Wild West outlaws, and sport. It was well known for its engravings and photographs of scantily clad strippers, burlesque dancers, and prostitutes, often skirting on the edge of what was legally considered obscenity. The National Police Gazette enjoyed considerable popularity in the late 19th century and early decades of the 20th century; but its popularity decreased during the Great Depression. [1] It continued publishing until 1982. [2] Musician Dan Hicks has claimed that he derived inspiration for some of his witty, satiric lyrics by stories he had read in The Police Gazette. The website, www.policegazette.us[3], mimics the Police Gazette style in coverage of current events and contains some archival materials from the original publication that give a

March 7, 2009 YouTube - Joe Pass - All the Things You Are - Likaholix Joe Pass Joe Pass (via last.fm) I have been also adding Music to my Likaholix page especially music by older Jazz Greats Likaholix Rocks and is so easy to use- Joe Pass recorded a series of albums during the 1960s for the Pacific Jazz label, including the early classics Catch Me, 12-String Guitar, For Django, and Simplicity. In 1963, Pass received Downbeat magazine's "New Star Award". Pass was also featured on Pacific Jazz recordings by Gerald Wilson, Bud Shank, and Les McCann. Pass toured with George Shearing in 1965. Mostly, however, during the 1960s he did TV and recording session work in Los Angeles. He was a sideman with Louis Bellson, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, Della Reese, Johnny Mathis, and worked on TV shows including the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Merv Griffin Show, The Steve Allen Show, and others. In the early 1970s, Pass and guitarist Herb Ellis were performing together regularly at Donte's jazz club in Los Angeles. This collaboration led to Pass and Ellis recording the very first album on the new Concord Jazz label, entitled simply Jazz/Concord (#CJS-1), along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Jake Hanna. In the early 1970s, Pass also collaborated on a series of music books, and his Joe Pass Guitar Style (written with Bill Thrasher) is considered a leading improvisation textbook for students of jazz. Norman Granz, the producer of Jazz at the Philharmonic and the founder of Verve Records signed Pass to Granz's new Pablo Records label in 1970. In 1974, Pass released his landmark solo album Virtuoso on Pablo Records. Also in 1974, Pablo Records released the album The Trio featuring Pass, Oscar Peterson, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. At the Grammy Awards of 1975, The Trio won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance by a Group. As part of the Pablo Records "stable," Pass also recorded with Benny Carter, Milt Jackson, Herb Ellis, Zoot Sim

What do you get when you add together Ian Schafer, Brian Morrissey and Gary Vaynerchuk? A lively discussion on social media and business participation. Immediately when I viewed the video on Friday I knew I wanted to take the opportunity to share it here. Not only are they great minds when it comes to social media, they make points that every business needs to hear. A few weeks ago I did a presentation about business blogging and the person that represents that to me? GaryVee. Not that every business should act the same way he does, that is not the point of social media. We should not try to be someone we are not. In my opinion the key to Gary's success is his passion. Ned Sublette I was on Gotham Gal's website this morning using th LIJIT Search Engine http://gothamgal.blogs.com/ I wanted to re read a book by one of my favorite authors and he is also a great musician ! Yes I found it! Viva Ritmo Latino Cuba and Its Music: From the First Drums to the Mambo by Ned Sublette "This entertaining history of Cuba and its music begins with the collision of Spain and Africa and continues through the era of Miguelito Valdés, Arsenio Rodríguez, Benny Moré, and Pérez Prado. It offers a behind-the-scenes examination of music from a Cuban point of view, unearthing surprising, provocative connections and making a case for Cuba as fundamental to the evolution of music in the New World. Revealed are how the music of black slaves transformed 16th-century Europe, how the claves appeared, and how Cuban music influenced ragtime, jazz, and rhythm and blues. Music lovers will follow this journey from Andalucía, the Congo, the Calabar, Dahomey, and Yorubaland via Cuba to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Saint-Domingue, New Orleans, New York, and Miami. The music is placed in a historical context that considers the complexities of the slave trade; Cuba's relationship to the United States; its revolutionary political traditions; the music of Santería, Palo, Abakuá, Vodú, and much more. Cuba and its Music is an ambitious project whose repercussions in a different genre might be on a par with those of Buena Vista. Grounded on frequent trips to the island and an extensive bibliography, this book by Ned Sublette is a first for an English-reading public: a didactic and accessible steer through part of Cuba's turbulent history and its music, whose parameters embrace cultural anthropology, sociology, politics, and history, as well as musicology and music. I also get a lot of great Latin Music from NPR http://www.ritmolatino.org/ Lijit is great search engine with excellent Tech Support it is great add for any web site http://www.lijit.com/about N

I just installed Bill's Israel's Latest Redesigned Tumble Theme ! I like the bar at the bottom to display all information my Lijit Widget Installed beautifully ! Mr Israel is a master of Type Font Art ! I wish he would design a Word press theme ! The use of Type to display talent is an art ! He can be found @ cubicle1.com. I finished a redesign of cubicle17 a few weeks ago, and as is my policy, I am making my old theme available for free to one and all. With nicely-sized, readable text, plenty of white space, and an elastic one-column design, Simplification is not only one of my simpler themes (which might be saying a lot), but it's also one of my favorites. If you're in the market for a new theme, give Simplification a look. Update: a couple of minor issues were found after posting this, so if you've applied this theme already, please update to the latest version. cubicle17.com is the work of Bill Israel. Bill lives in St Louis, MO with his wife and cat, pays the bills by developing software, makes Tumblr Themes, and is available for client work. bill.israel@gmail.com marshal sandler .com.
