What do you get when you add together Ian Schafer, Brian Morrissey and Gary Vaynerchuk? A lively discussion on social media and business participation. Immediately when I viewed the video on Friday I knew I wanted to take the opportunity to share it here. Not only are they great minds when it comes to social media, they make points that every business needs to hear. A few weeks ago I did a presentation about business blogging and the person that represents that to me? GaryVee. Not that every business should act the same way he does, that is not the point of social media. We should not try to be someone we are not. In my opinion the key to Gary's success is his passion. That is what it is all about. I have a passion for Customer Service, and that comes out in everything I do." It was founded in 1845 by George Wilkes, a journalist and sometime transcontinental railroad booster.[1] The editor for most of the 19th century was Richard K. Fox, an immigrant from Ireland. Ostensibly devoted to matters of interest to the police, it was more often a tabloid-like publication, with lurid coverage of murders, Wild West outlaws, and sport. It was well known for its engravings and photographs of scantily clad strippers, burlesque dancers, and prostitutes, often skirting on the edge of what was legally considered obscenity. The National Police Gazette enjoyed considerable popularity in the late 19th century and early decades of the 20th century; but its popularity decreased during the Great Depression. [1] It continued publishing until 1982. [2] Musician Dan Hicks has claimed that he derived inspiration for some of his witty, satiric lyrics by stories he had read in The Police Gazette. The website, www.policegazette.us[3], mimics the Police Gazette style in coverage of current events and contains some archival materials from the original publication that give a

Marketing your blog on Twitter | Janet Fouts - 0 views

Marketing your blog on Twitter Thu, May 7, 2009Social Media Tips and Tricks Marketing your blog on Twitter is easy right? You just post a link to it and the Tweeple come running to read it. Maybe, and maybe not. There's a lot more to it than that. First and foremost who are you talking to? Are the people in your Twitter network interested in the topic? If you're going outside of your Twitter networks area of interest it's much less likely to be seen. Look for somebody on Twitter who is focused in that area and Tweet it to them, ask their opinion or ask for a re-tweet so you can be seen in their network. About the title You want it to be short and to the point for a couple of reasons. Search engines love keywords and if your title is full of off topic words it's not going to do you any favors. Your title needs to capture attention on Twitter and still leave room for people to re-tweet it to their own networks on Twitter too. For some great tips on how to write a title that will get you noticed, read copyblogger's post. Timing

Twitter manners- how to write good tweets and be a good twittizen | Janet Fouts - 0 views

Twitter manners- how to write good tweets and be a good twittizen Sat, May 2, 2009Social Media Tips and Tricks Like any community there are a lot of un-written laws to how you tweet on Twitter. Most of it is just plain common courtesy and some of it is specific to the platform. What I'm posting here in no particular order are the ones I try to remember and I encourage you to add your own for us all to learn from. Fill out your profile and upload a picture. Before you start Tweeting let people know who they're listening to. When someone discovers your carefully written and deeply valuable first Tweets, they're going to come to our profile to learn more and decide if they want to follow you. If you've got the default icon and no info they may wait until later. There is no later. They'll forget you. Don't follow a bizillion people right off the bat. Choose your Twitter friends carefully for the value they add to you and your network. You're looking to build relationships, not notches in your cyber bedpost.

Internet Censorship - A Digg "Bury Brigade" Case Study : Zaphu - 0 views

  •
Points to a disproportionately large number of posts about the political candidate Ron Paul that were buried on Digg, in support of the premise of that so-called "bury brigades" exist on Digg, groups of users who vote against articles en masse when they don't like them, "philosophically". This should surprise absolutely nobody who is familiar with Digg's basic operating principles and has been online for more than ten minutes in his life, but sometimes people need evidence in support of the obvious. Putting the feeedom to be heard on a topic to a vote - how do people expect that to work out?
