Micro Persuasion: Three Ways the Media is Innovating with New Interfaces - 0 views

Innovating with New Interfaces Fire and Water Pendant Image by lunarpersuasion via Flickr I have seen very few people that are always on the mark Steve Rubel :-IS "Several months ago I had lunch with a major media company executive who told me that, in the future, content will not be subsidized by banner ads splashed liberally on news pages. This is something that the current economic situation is hopefully accelerating as display ad quality plummets to new lows. I remain convinced that the media must innovate their way out of this situation from both editorial and sales, but no one seems to be really doing so on the advertising side. If you want a glimpse of what's next for media then you need to really look to the editorial side of the house. As we've seen, that's where all the innovation is happening these days - and its changing how we engage with content. Here a look are three promising approaches and their potential implications." Steve Rubel TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2009 Biography Steve Rubel, SVP, Director of Insights for Edelman Digital, is responsible for keeping Edelman and its clients in the vanguard. He studies global technology, media and online trends and shapes them into actionable insights and marketing communications strategies. In his role, Rubel curates and writes a monthly white paper on digital trends. These are distributed free to clients. In addition, he draws on these insights in his role as a senior strategic advisor to Edelman clients such as PepsiCo, Zagat, Unilever, Microsoft and many others. Rubel supports the account planning processes, intellectual property development and the firm's innovation and business development efforts. He is a member of the Edelman Digital senior leadership committee. His Micro Persuasion blog on digital trends, which launched in 2004, today has 50,000 daily readers and has been cited as a must-read by the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNET, PC Magazine and Forrester Research. Image via CrunchBase February 20, 2009 We Will Prove You Wrong "Jeff Jarvis handed me a copy of his new book, "What Would Google Do?" after we finished a brainstorm on health care costs at the World Economic Forum. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the author as a visionary and change agent. He does not disappoint in his very pointed and inspirational text that is a must-read for anyone in the communications business. His central thesis is that control has moved to the people, that companies are advised to tap into the power of networks and that marketing must be based on relationships."Richard Edleman The last person to attempted to take a stab at Mr Edleman's Profession was Jason Calacanis-It is pretty hard to criticize the field of public relations unless you have a backround in Semantics,General Semantics, Mathematics,Game Theory and Statistics- Not just mouthing the words but are educated in these fields-General Semantics is a field pioneered by Alfred Korzibski and promoted by Carl Rogers,S I Hayakawa and Antatol Rapaport-and others- The map is not the territory is a remark by Polish-American scientist and philosopher Alfred Korzybski, encapsulating his view that an abstraction derived from something, or a reaction to it, is not the thing itself, e.g., the pain from a stone falling on your foot is not the stone; one's opinion of a politician, favorable or unfavorable, is not that person; a metaphorical representation of a concept is not the concept itself; and so on. A specific abstraction or reaction does not capture all facets of its source-e.g., the pain in your foot does not convey the internal structure of the stone, you don't know everything that is going on in the life of a politician, etc.-and thus may limit an individual's understanding and cognitive abilities unless the two are distinguished. What do you get when you add together Ian Schafer, Brian Morrissey and Gary Vaynerchuk? A lively discussion on social media and business participation. Immediately when I viewed the video on Friday I knew I wanted to take the opportunity to share it here. Not only are they great minds when it comes to social media, they make points that every business needs to hear. A few weeks ago I did a presentation about business blogging and the person that represents that to me? GaryVee. Not that every business should act the same way he does, that is not the point of social media. We should not try to be someone we are not. In my opinion the key to Gary's success is his passion. That is what it is all about. I have a passion for Customer Service, and that comes out in everything I do." Marketing your blog on Twitter | Janet Fouts - 0 views

Marketing your blog on Twitter Thu, May 7, 2009Social Media Tips and Tricks Marketing your blog on Twitter is easy right? You just post a link to it and the Tweeple come running to read it. Maybe, and maybe not. There's a lot more to it than that. First and foremost who are you talking to? Are the people in your Twitter network interested in the topic? If you're going outside of your Twitter networks area of interest it's much less likely to be seen. Look for somebody on Twitter who is focused in that area and Tweet it to them, ask their opinion or ask for a re-tweet so you can be seen in their network. About the title You want it to be short and to the point for a couple of reasons. Search engines love keywords and if your title is full of off topic words it's not going to do you any favors. Your title needs to capture attention on Twitter and still leave room for people to re-tweet it to their own networks on Twitter too. For some great tips on how to write a title that will get you noticed, read copyblogger's post. Timing

The Internet Is Alive And Well (As An Investment) - 0 views

  •
The Internet Is Alive And Well (As An Investment) James Altucher penned a column in today's WSJ titled The Internet Is Dead (As An Investment). James is a fund manager and well read columnist on investing and he is entitled to his opinion. He puts his money where his mouth is. But so do I and since we continue to invest heavily in the Internet, I thought I'd take the opposite side of this debate. We (my partners and I at Union Square Ventures) think the Internet is one of those transformative technologies that changes everything. We see it like the industrial revolution or the invention of the printing press. It is a huge game changer. The Internet has been a commercial technology for about fifteen years now. And we are beginning to see the impact of it on everything around us. The industrial revolution and the Renaissance before it lasted a century or more. It takes a long time for such fundamental changes to work their way through the system and produce a new "normal".
