Seattle's TEDx: The business of technology, for good of society - 0 views

"ogether, those two things are really propelling Seattle forward, and we thought we should try to focus the event in that way, on this notion of social entrepreneurship and technology. Because it's also what we're interested in, intellectually, in our program. That was our premise for the event, and through that, we started finding speakers, all of them regionally based, that fit that mission. It was actually pretty easy."

"The rise of social and sustainable enterprise has occurred in response to an overwhelming need for systemic change. Yet collectively, the issues we're seeking to address require more intelligence, more resources and more influence than we individually have access to. We firmly believe that the wisdom we require to pass through the perfect storm of social, environmental and economic problems is to be found in the collective - in our connections and collaborations - as opposed to within the confines of our own individual, entrepreneurial and organizational structures. W1SDØM has been created to support change agents, investors and advisors by facilitating the flow of capital - be it human, intellectual, social or financial - to more effectively create the next generation of global sustainable enterprise."

"cosi10 is a transformative event for social innovators, social entrepreneurs and their social ventures that's happening all over the world in the second half of 2010. * A simple, self-organizing face to face unconference event. cosi10 participants come together under the guidance of a local host who follows the cosi10 unconference event guide. Through that process, participants network and learn from each other in dynamic collaborative conversation (in their local languages) about impact strategies, sharing resources for developing our skills, and planning what it takes to build thrivable social innovations and revenue models. The participants co-create the story of what happened offline in the online event space at ned.com, where other cosi10 participants from around the world can respond, interact and connect around common purpose. SSE - School for Social Entrepreneurs - 0 views

  •
The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) exists to provide training and opportunities to enable people to use their creative and entrepreneurial abilities more fully for social benefit. SSE supports individuals to set up new charities, social enterprises and social businesses across the UK. The SSE runs practical learning programmes aimed at helping develop the individual entrepreneur and their organisation simultaneously: our approach, and belief, is that social change is people-powered, and that the most valuable assets and resources we have are human ones. Each programme combines specific elements designed to provide an intensive, complete package of support that meets the needs of social entrepreneurs. This person-centred approach has been independently proven to create sustainable, thriving organisations that provide significant, lasting social and economic impact. The school was founded in 1997 by Michael Young (Lord Young of Dartington), a social innovator who'd previously launched the Consumers' Association, the Open University and around 40 other organisations. Following successful Millennium Awards programmes around the UK, the SSE expanded outside its base in Bethnal Green, London, and the network of SSEs around the UK continues to grow. Over 500 SSE Fellows have completed programmes around the country. SSE is a registered charity (1085465) and a company limited by guarantee (3900741).

"Dedicated to ending the use of environmentally-destructive disposable plastic water bottles, the Bottle Brigade will both educate students about the reasons that these bottles are destructive and also work to find alternatives for people to purchase. To promote education, the Bottle Brigade will design a workshop and present this at local area elementary schools, providing students with important environmental knowledge and a customizable reusable water bottle. In addition, the Bottle Brigade will work with local high schools to end the sale of disposable bottles on campus, campaign towards shoppers about the dangers and alternatives, and sell reusable water bottles as a safe, green, alternative."
