While Kirshner, et. al. are advocates of, and provide supporting research for, Direct Instruction, including the "...the direct instructional guidance on concepts and procedures required by a particular discipline.", the three rebuttals present an equal amount of research to support their view that "...PBL allows for flexible adaptation of guidance, making this instructional approach potentially more compatible with the manner in which our cognitive structures are organized."
