Quizdini is a free tool for creating online quizzes. The best feature of Quizdini is that you can create explanations of the correct answer for your students to view immediately after trying each question in your quiz. Your explanation can include text and or links to online resources like videos and images. Quizdini quizzes can be created in a traditional linear format or in a matching format that asks students to pair answers to terms.

The Google Maps Streetview Player was developed by Brian Folts. The purpose of the player is to allow you to plan a route on Google Maps and watch it carried out in Street View without having to click along the route. To use the Google Maps Streetview Player just enter a starting point and an ending point then press play. When you press play the Streetview Player will take you along the route. You can pause, rewind, and fast-forward at any time. There is also an experimental option to download a video of the route as it is played out.

Edcanvas is a free service that makes it easy for teachers to organize and share educational materials in a visually pleasing format. The "canvas" part of Edcanvas is where you arrange videos, links, images, and files around any topic of your choosing. Edcanvas has built-in search tools so that you do not have to leave your Edcanvas account in order to locate resources.

a neat way for students to build and share multimedia slides on their tablets (including iPads) and computers. BrainyBox provides six blank screens in which students can build slides that include text, videos (via embed codes), images, and hyperlinks. I also discovered that I could embed SoundCloud recordings and Google Maps into my screens. The finished product displays my slides as a cube that can embedded into a blog post or shared by directing people to the unique URL assigned to my project. All projects can be edited by their owners at any time.

The awards recognize outstanding visualizations that can help educate students about complex topics in science. "

Beyond the excellent explanations available in these animations, this site could offer great examples of technical writing/writing-to-teach that we might want to explore as useful assignments for students--even if they just designed the animation and did not produce it. "The Faculty Project is a series of free online courses developed by professors from top-notch universities including Northwestern, Dartmouth, and Vassar. The courses will be conducted through Udemy's platform of video, slides, and PDFs. While it's not clear if the professors will or will not be checking-in on the courses, there are discussion boards for students in each course to correspond with each other."
