NEWBURGH - Police have confirmed that a man, wanted for a violent burglary in September, killed himself in October. Rosendo Perez-Villalobos, who was deported from the United States five times was most recently wanted by Newburgh City Police in connection with a September 13 violent burglary, in which he strangled and assaulted his victim and committed burglary. One week later, police released a wanted posted for Perez-Villalobos on charges of strangulation, burglary and rape. On October 1, officers found a man hanging from a tree, the victim of an apparent suicide. After receiving DNA confirmation, city police on Tuesday announced the body was that of Perez-Villalobos. In addition to the Newburgh charges, he had been wanted on an outstanding warrant for sexual misconduct and was a sex offender in New York State. Newburgh Police were assisted in the investigation by the State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Woods Run prison guard who masterminded the abuse of child sex offenders serving time will spend five years on probation, an Allegheny County judge ordered on Thursday. Harry Nicoletti, 61, of Coraopolis, a former guard at State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh, will spend six months on house arrest. Prosecutors said Nicoletti led a group of guards who targeted inmates convicted of sex crimes involving minors.

That's what Craig Strizzi, a veteran correction officer at the Albany County jail, allegedly told two inmates Wednesday afternoon just before he enlisted them to join him in beating another inmate in the jail's recreation yard. Statements from Strizzi (PDF), the victim and the two inmates charged Monday in the beating shed light on the alleged plot, the lengths Strizzi is accused of going to in an effort to cover up the attack and how it unfolded. "We both talked about how we hated child molesters," Matthew Cahn, one of the inmates charged in the beating, said in his statement to investigators. Strizzi, Cahn and Lauterio Santos are accused of attacking [name withheld], a 20-year-old Albany man held at the jail on charges he raped an 8-year-old boy in Albany's Lincoln Park. "I told Strizzi I would like to get a shot at getting [name withheld] if I could do it without getting into trouble."

Jonathan Paul Brewin, 29, of Carleton Mill, was annoyed that a man living nearby had not been sent to prison for possessing indecent images of children, Skipton magistrates were told. A Northern California white supremacist convicted of killing a child molester has been sentenced to 26 years to life in prison, while his wife - convicted of being an accessory - will be released from jail in about two months, The Sacramento Bee reported Saturday. Charles Francis Gaskins, 48, was sentenced Friday after pleading no contest in March for the killing of Neil Hayes in 2009. A probation report said Gaskins was a member of a supremacist group that required its members to attack anyone with a history of child molestation. Gaskins and his wife - Sandra Sheaves - was living in a home she owned in Carmichael, a community outside of Sacramento, when they allowed the 66-year-old Hayes to move in. Gaskins had met Hayes while they were both serving time in prison, The Bee said.
