    Study looked at hormone levels via serum analysis at the time of sudden cardiac arrest in both men and women.  Low Testosterone and elevated Estrogen levels in  men were associated with increased odds (OR) versus women only had increased odds with elevated Estrogen.   ManBoob nation, my first book, discusses the mechanism behind this for men.  The finding in women really calls into question the Estrogen only model currently employed by physicians for post menopausal women.

    I really don't understand the purpose of this study.  Why give "healthy" men with normal lipids atorvastatin???  The study found a reduction in TC and LDL, but also a reduction in sperm number, decreased sperm vitality, increased sperm morphology, decreased prostatic acid pho sphatases, epididymal neutral alpha-glucosidase and L-carnitine levels resulted.

    This article, here only abstract available, points to low Testosterone as the effect and not the cause.  The cause being obesity.  An interesting association between leptin and low T is found.  Leptin is a hormone produced from adipocytes, this study found leptin receptors in the leydig cells of testes.  Thus, increased leptin production from increased abdominal adiposity can result in a decrease in 17,20 lyase activity and thus a direct inhibition of leydig cell Testosterone production.

    Age induced decline in Testosterone is more associated with a decline in leydig cell function and thus elevated LH will be associated.  In contrast, obesity is more of a HPA axis disruption and thus LH may be normal to low.  The pulse amplitude is decrease.  No change in pulse frequency is noted.   With obesity, a decline in TT and fT was independent of SHBG. Aging is associated with a greater decrease in fT versus TT.

    Resistance exercise did not increase muscle concentrations of Testosterone in men or women.  The individuals in this study were actively training.  These were not sedentary individuals.
