The user can draw a compound or choose from a selection of compounds from three databases. Once a compound has been selected the user can click the 2D to 3D button to convert the molecule into a 3D model which is then displayed in the viewer, located on the right side of the screen. In addition to the 3D viewer you can also use the app to distinguish between atomic, molecular, and ionic solids by clicking on the crystallography model tab. What I love about this function of the app is that it helps users identify that each type of solid has different structures and patterns.

Learning science and math is normally thought of as committing to memory facts and procedures. Because of this we tend to perceive the best way to teach is through rote memorization of ideas, theories, and models. As a consequence, students experience little opportunity to develop a real understanding of what they are expected learn. Our challenge is to craft strategies which allow student interactivity within lessons. Student involvement beyond memorization is an essential building block for learning science and math.

Wolfram Tones is a neat offering from Wolfram that students can use to can play with sample sounds and rhythms to create new own sounds. Wolfram Tones uses algorithms, music theory, and sound samples to generate new collections of sounds. Wolfram Tones allows visitors to choose samples from fifteen different genres of music on which to build their own sounds. Once a genre is selected visitors can then alter the rhythms, instrumentation, and pitch mapping of their sounds. When satisfied with their creations, users can download their sounds or have them sent directly to their cell phones.
