Welcome to IGN Retro's new weekly countdown of the strange, silliest, and best moments in classic gaming: Top 10 Tuesday. But don't let that "top" part lull you -- we'll point out just as much infamy on these lists as we do the good stuff.

Yes, you know the deal. You vote for your 10 favourite games, the first one gets 10 points, the second one gets 9 points... The Lynx doesn´t have too many games, so we´ll keep the list at 25 games.

Ever since Space Invaders first came out for the Atari 2600, popular arcade games have found their way to virtually every game console on the market. As such it creates an interesting look at the transition from arcade to console. It is without question that the arcade versions of the games themselves are superior - whether graphically or audibly or even with the way it controls. Naturally modern systems are able to recreate classic games without any trouble but we still enjoy the games on the original hardware anyways.

We've all been video-game junkies at some point in our lives and some of us may still be addicted. Since about 7 years old, I've been playing almost every video game imaginable, some great and some that were just horrible. I decided to compile a list of my top ten greatest video games of all-time. Whether, the console was Atari, Nintendo, Genesis, Xbox, or Playstation, I'm sure there are a lot of you that will agree on some of these classic games.

In an industry where an obese plumber can become a cultural icon, it's no wonder that in video games, weird is normal. However nutty they get, these oddities were never as strange as the ones for the Atari 2600. Ironically the most bizarre of these came out around the crash of the video game industry, causing most of them to go unnoticed in the rubble of a once great gaming console. Take a look weirdest Games you'll ever see, all for the Atari 2600.

Below is a list of my favorite Atari 2600 games. Some are current favorites and others I liked better when they were new back in the 1980s. There are many games I haven't had a chance to play, so this list will probably change as I discover new favorites. The Atari 2600 was not without software. The first mainstream videogame console sold over 30 million units on the strength of both its newness and the breadth of its game library, which numbered in the hundreds... as in, several hundreds. But the rush to publish games for the Atari 2600 was also the system's greatest weakness, as consumer confidence in the Atari 2600 -- and the entire industry -- was severely damaged by scores of high-profile bad games.

Oh, man… Looking back, 1999 was such an awesome year. The Sega Dreamcast came out on 9/9/99, the threat of Y2K was just around the corner, and Neo Geo released their first and only handheld system, the Neo Geo Pocket. Sure, it may not be as well known as the Game Boy or Game Gear, and it may not have had crazy hardware specs like the Atari Lynx, but it had some damn fine games.

Most people don't realize that I didn't get my start at the San Francisco Chronicle as the universally beloved pop culture critic that you know today. I was actually a Chronicle paperboy in the early-to-mid 1980s.

An Atari 2600 was the first video game machine I ever owned. I had a shoebox full of games, but these are my top ten favorites. By the way, I owned the E.T. game that everyone says is the worst game ever made; I pretty much agree. However, I did not find my Ghostbusters game all that swell either.

 The 2600 can do more with 4k than the PS3 can with 4 gigs!

The funny thing is that half of the folks who read this node have never played, let alone seen, an Atari 2600.

In 1977 the Atari 2600 launched in North America, quickly becoming a household name synonymous with video games and the video game industry.

Atari has put out many wonderful video games, of which has given us many years of delightful family entertainment. This is a list of ten of our family favorites.

While it wouldn't actually be the first cartridge-based home game console, the Atari 2600 would prove to be the first big hit, ushering in the first golden age of home gaming while the golden age of the American arcade scene was in full force.  And though its popularity would inevitably decline with the onset of the video game crash of 1983, the console would still have appeal years later.

The RetroGaming 101 series is aimed at gamers who are just starting out in the classic gaming scene or are curious about an older console that they don't know much about yet. Those of you that are especially knowledgeable about the featured machine, I encourage you to add any information that you think would be beneficial into the comments section.
