This is simply a list of my top 20 video games of all time. These are some of the games that I grew up on and/or kept me engaged for extended periods of time. And though some of the charm and fun of these games have faded over time, I recommend you give these titles a try if you have not.
I remember my first video game experience - camped out in front of my best friend's Nintendo playing Megaman 3 while he played. It was something that absolutely dazzled my mind, and several years later for Christmas, my parents bought my brother and me a Nintendo 64 - complete with Mario 64. The experience of a long-time gamer was just getting started, and as the years passed by I collected a plethora of games that were kept on my shelf as my 'favorites'. They range through age, system, and even rating. However, if you're a girl looking for a game, or you know a girl who may be looking for a game, I have compiled my favorite games from mostly the Adventure and Role Playing Game (RPG) Genre.
Survival Horror. It is a genre of fear, of emotion, and of atmosphere. Of all video game genres, survival horror is one of the most plot-driven, setting characters in horrific locales with strange and twisted beings. It is also a genre that pulls heavily from other mediums, as many of the titles on this list can attest. The titles that follow shouldn't surprise the reader: they are the titles that have formed and defined the genre and should be easily recognizable to fans of the genre.
Not only was the Nintendo Entertainment System the console that resurrected video games after the industry crash of '83, but the system's top titles set the gameplay standard by which modern platforming, RPG, action, adventure and narrative are designed today. These are the most influential and trend setting titles from the NES.
The success of Space Invaders in 1978 brought Arcades from a small budding market, into a booming business. Meanwhile in homes the Atari 2600 was seeing monumental success. To meet the demand companies jumped on the bandwagon, launching numerous titles into development.
A classic game isn't likely to have come out in the past 10 years. Even this site doesn't consider it a classic unless the game was made before 1999; but that doesn't mean there haven't been major achievements in retro gaming during the first decade of the new millennium.
The PC Engine Software Bible is a comprehensive listing of games for NEC's PC Engine console, released in 1987 in Japan, and two years later as the TurboGrafx-16 in America. On this site you will find reviews, screenshots, videos, music tracks and many more extras.
I bought a Nintendo 64 the day it came out, and I've been a huge fan ever since. The N64 is my favorite console ever. It had amazing sound and video and, as always, Nintendo made some incredibly fun games for it. The jump from the Super Nintendo to the Nintendo 64 is probably the biggest upgrade of all time. Going from a 2D 10MHz system to a 3D 93.75 MHz system with CD-quality voices blew me away. When you've been used to Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 is unbelievable. Suddenly there were huge immersive 3D worlds to explore, and characters who actually spoke.
The Nintendo Entertainment System gets a lot of praise from gamers. And why not? It had great games, introduced a bunch of classic franchises, and revived the video game industry after Atari went ahead and screwed it up. It deserves to be celebrated. We may be on a budget, but don't worry, we're going to have confetti. Just remember - clerks want you to buy the candy first before you take the wrappers.
Three decades after the debut of Milton Bradley's Microvision, here's a look at how handheld video game systems evolved, from early flops like the Atari Lynx to the gaming innovations of the iPhone.
An Atari 2600 was the first video game machine I ever owned. I had a shoebox full of games, but these are my top ten favorites. By the way, I owned the E.T. game that everyone says is the worst game ever made; I pretty much agree. However, I did not find my Ghostbusters game all that swell either.
While it wouldn't actually be the first cartridge-based home game console, the Atari 2600 would prove to be the first big hit, ushering in the first golden age of home gaming while the golden age of the American arcade scene was in full force. And though its popularity would inevitably decline with the onset of the video game crash of 1983, the console would still have appeal years later.
As gamers we tend to remember, or at least know, our roots. Game consoles have come a long way,but you just can not forget the old systems that helped pave the way for todays more extensive, graphic oriented video games. The Atari was loads of fun and still is in our house. These are my top 10 picks for Atari games.
Atari made some of the very fist and best video games. Many of these games went on to be remade into games we enjoy today, and some just remained classics that every little kid loved to play. Wether they were re-made or preserved in their classic state, here is a list of the top ten Atari Games ever made.
