The Atari 2600, revolutionary, ahead of its time and most importantly loads of fun. No longer did we ask mom and dad for chutes and ladders, parcheesi or hungry hungry hippo. Now we had an interactive experience in the palm of our hands, literally!

Forgotten geekdom: The Five Best Intellivision Games You Forgot About - 0 views

  •
I'm still not sure how I convinced my parents to buy an Intellivision. Maybe it was the fact that Atari seemed like such a kids' toy, but Intellivision had all of these promises to teach your children things (completely untrue), and would soon be able to be expanded with a keyboard (bupkus), eventually making it as powerful as a home computer (at this point, the marketing department was pretty much just conjuring crap up).

This site tries to list all adventure games (interactive fiction) produced over the years. When I say "adventure", I mean text adventures and their graphical decendants, but I don't include RPGs. For a more detailed description of what's included here and not, see the FAQ.

Gamasutra - A History of Gaming Platforms: The Commodore 64 - 0 views

  •
The Commodore 64 (C64) is perhaps the best known 8-bit computing platform ever designed, rivaled only by the Apple II in terms of popularity and longevity. Within a few short years after its introduction in 1982, the Commodore 64 dominated the low-end computer market, receiving a steady stream of software and peripheral support that lasted through the decade.

My goal when researching this was to make it so any games or MIDI files I played in windows sound like I remember them sounding on my old 486's SoundBlaster Pro 2.0.

Sega Genesis - 1989-1997 - Classic Gaming - 0 views

  •
It was 1989. Nintendo's NES had reigned supreme in the videogame market for nearly five years, and it was time for a new system to take over the throne. Sega's Master System, while graphically superior to the NES, failed to make any kind of lasting impression in the U.S. market (although it was very popular in Europe), and Sega knew that their next system would not only have to be superior to everything else out there, but they'd have to have a lot of third-party developers lined up. The lack of third-party support is cited as the main cause of the Master System's demise.

Our resident TG-16 expert, marurun is back at it again (after writing TG-16 101). Much like on the 101 article, he did an awesome job writing just about every word in here. I just rearranged a few things and added some comments. Special thanks to the denizens of the forums at fellow enthusiast site pcenginefx.com. They also acted as a sounding board for our ideas for this article and contributed quite a bit of additional information and ideas.
