Graphical Representation in Education

Copy of an old (1989) article about what graphic orgranizers are. It is interesting to see them 'newsworthy' 21 years ago knowing how popular they are now. The article itself includes many organizers.

Took me a while to parse this, but sort of interesting.

"The National Education Technology Plan, Transforming American Education: Learning Powered by Technology, calls for applying the advanced technologies used in our daily personal and professional lives to our entire education system to improve student learning, accelerate and scale up the adoption of effective practices, and use data and information for continuous improvement. This is a free online bibliography tool - works for websites or offline resources, unlike Diigo, which as discussed in class is only for online bookmarking.

"Free mathematics software for learning and teaching" - appears to run in web browser or in a downloadable app.

Google MyMaps for Physics and Literature

As described by Tufte, sparklines are "intense, simple, word-sized graphics". Question: are there specific types of educational content/subject areas that are most amenable to the use of sparklines?

The website of "data journalist" David McCandless. Really solid design and informative infographics.

Ok, while you might not be able to get away with this at some schools, this is an amazing hook to let (older) kids explore the power of taking piles of data and transferring it to an infographic.

Representation of global media scares- would be cooler if it was compared to actual deaths from the purported deadliness

The mission of the Scientific Visualization Studio is to facilitate scientific inquiry and outreach within NASA programs through visualization. To that end, the SVS works closely with scientists in the creation of visualization products, systems, and processes in order to promote a greater understanding of Earth and Space Science research activities at Goddard Space Flight Center and within the NASA research community.
