TR has been harping about this for while. Their intention is to anger Singaporeans. Do they have a case? Should we care?

  •
Interesting argument: If we force the minimum wage, companies are forced to be more productive instead of simply bringing in more foreign labour.
  •
But then again there's the question on whether or not increasing productivity will lead to longer working hours have a corresponding effect on society at large.

TODAYonline | Singapore | Reason pastor not arrested - 17 views

  •
Double-standards or exercising good judgement? You decide.

well the reason y i tink the pastor was not arrested because he was already interrogated by ISD, hence it is as bad as being arrested already. Same as the 2 boys who put racist comments on facebook who were nt prosecuted.
  •
It's all good if there's is consistency. The problem is they've arrested and jailed others for similar offences. Two men were jailed for racist comments about Malays. One youth was names and rehabilitated for racist comments about Malays. So why the differing approach now? In the practice of law, precedents matter. Now here's the real fear I have. If a non-Chinese makes racist comments about Chinese and is arrested, we will then have a huge problem on our hands. I hope the powers that be are objective people. If they get it wrong, the consequences could be dire.
  •
Quite unfair that the pastor is not jailed
  •
well its rather true, however, i personally think that is like Chinese criticise Chinese, but the only difference is religion. Thats y the approach is different this time.. In the past, is likeone race makes fun of the other. Hence ISD takes action to interrogate him first. Since the pastor was nt jailed, so the 2 guys who posted racial comments against Indians must nt be jailed or else it will be seen unfair.

A really good commentary on the Rony Tan saga. The writer argues that instead of asking for punishment, we should have used this an an opportunity to learn about Buddhist beliefs. Food for thought.

Interesting that the Aussie PM refered to the Indian in the audience as a 'guest' in the country. I'm sure the Indian thought he was Australian.

VIDEO: Lighthouse evangelism pastor Rony Tan's comments on Buddhism : THE TEMASEK REVIEW - 14 views

  •
I knew it was only a matter fo time before this happened. With the internet, people can now find out what people say behind closed dooors about their religion. Comments can be exaggerated or misinterpreted. The Internet is so powerful, yet so dangerous and double-edged.

It was like a laughing session amongst the church members. There was no form of respect towards Buddhism. Totally unacceptable. If we have such low tolerance and respect towards each and other fellow Singaporean's religion, how are we able achieve a peaceful multi-racial society?
  •
I seriously had a hard time finishing the video. Lots of mixed feelings and I'm really furious about them making fun of other religion in session like this. You believe in Jesus Christ so be it, I respect your choice, decision and belief. But why make fun of the practices and rituals of other religion?
  •
Yes I agree the laughter is so insensitive and insulting. I reckon in religious issues people will disagree about beliefs, but we should be respectful.
  •
I watched part of the video from somewhere else, and inside me, got defensive - well, who wouldn't be, if their religion is being put down? They do not have the full understanding of the religion but dared to criticise. It just goes to show that they are utterly ignorant.
