This is the one location that has every resource related to the Hubble Space Telescope, including images, videos, animations, interviews with astronomers, links to on-line activities, and more.
Niel mentioned that there is an on-line activity that you can do that leads you through using Hubble images to estimate the number of galaxies in the Universe. This is the link to this activity, I encourage you to try it out!
Question - I couldn't find an answer to this and thought you could help. Has anyone run calculations to see if black holes could form within a black hole?
Hi Terry.
I think that if you refer to the notes on singularities this is partly answered. Niel recommended Lee Smolin's book -- "The Life of the Cosmos", and he discussed at least one idea from that book related to your question. I think the best answer is that it appears plausible that this could happen if black holes behave inside their horizons as described in Smolin's book. Ultimately though, we are prevented from seeing anything inside the horizon, so we have no way to tell!
