"Google Apps Script (GAS). GAS is a JavaScript cloud scripting language that provides easy ways to automate tasks across Google products and third party services and build web applications.*  GAS lets you do more with Google Apps for Education (GAFE) such as drive and calendars. There a tons of already created scripts that help educators but you can also create your own by opening a Google Doc, spreadsheet etc and clicking on tools, script editor. Joan L. Green, a speech-language pathologist in Potomac and the author of "The Ultimate Guide to Assistive Technology in Special Education," shares some of her favorite iPad apps for kids with special needs. These are the most expensive versions of the apps because they have the most options for individualizing them to a child's particular needs. In some cases, there are less expensive versions. These apps cost far more than most, but they are cheaper than traditional communication systems and equipment that parents of kids with special needs may have bought in the past.

Some teacher apps, some students apps, some free, some paid. Wouldn't say they are the "10 best" but the list definitely offers some interesting app information.

New touchscreen and mobile devices offer an opportunity to connect with children in a new way educationally. The interactivity of these devices provide a unique way to encourage and motivate a multitude of learners. Though the app market is dominated by Apple, the Android store is growing rapidly. As the educational (and worldwide) trend moves towards personalized and mobile learning, finding the right apps for kids becomes an important task. CBS This Morning recently quoted a new study that said that apps are second only to e-mail and texting in terms of what we use phones for. Let's take advantage of the popularity!

In order to help educators integrate iPads effectively, we have compiled a list of apps focused on learning goals consistent with the CRCD framework. While many of these apps have also appeared in our iPads in the Classroom section, this list is driven by specific learning goals that promote critical-thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the creation of student-centric learning environments.

Old list (2008) but many of the apps still exist and are still relevant, not only to the iPhone but relevant to the iPad as well. If nothing else it is a good base-line list of app possibilities dating back a few years. Always good to know a bit of history...
