Stimulating Critical Thinking through a Technological Lens - 19 views

  •
Stimulating critical thinking using technology has the potential to create more in depth understanding of science and math content by students when engaged in learning activities which integrate in-class and on-line technology resources. Technology tools support stimulation of both inquiry-based and critical thinking skills by engaging students in exploring, thinking, reading, writing, researching, inventing, problem-solving, and experiencing the world outside their classroom. This is accomplished through learning content through the lens of video to multimedia to the internet (Using Technology to Improve Student Achievement, NCREL, 2005).

Your ideal buyer While billions of users are online, only a few profiles of people qualify as your ideal customer. Therefore, defining your ideal buyers will determine most of your marketing and even business decisions. As most of you know, the uber gods of PBL are BIE. I was first introduced to the BIE PBL 'model' from mate Dean Groom who handed me over what I still refer to as my 'PBL Bible' - a ring-binder full of the BIE Freebies that help teachers plan effective projects and keep students on track as they move through the different phases of each project. The cool thing is that you can use as much or as little as you want … PBL is a very personal process that (like all good teaching) should be tailored to the expertise and needs of the teacher and students. However, there are 8 Elements of Project Based Learning that can be called the 'essential elements' of PBL … keeping an eye on these and 'testing' your project design based on them can help you determine if what you're creating isn't just a 'project'. I really like this statement from BIE contrasting PBL and traditional 'projects':

A typical unit with a "project" add-on begins by presenting students with knowledge and concepts and then, once gained, giving students the opportunity to apply them. Project Based Learning begins with the vision of an end product or presentation. This creates a context and reason to learn and understand the information and concepts.

Conceived by Greg Nussbaum, creator of MrNussbaum.com, and designed by the team at igamestudio.com, The Lost Lunchbox is an unforgettable and exciting experience for students that incorporates critical thinking skills in multiple disciplines, problem solving, and a healthy dose of adventure and curiosity. The Lost Lunchbox is an outstanding, educational alternative to traditional video games that glamorize violence and promote mental stagnation.

Reinventing the Big Test: The Challenge of Authentic Assessment | Edutopia - 0 views

  • Equally worrisome is that today's assessments emphasize narrow skill sets such as geometry and grammar, and omit huge chunks of what educators and business leaders say is essential for modern students to learn: creative thinking, problem solving, cooperative teamwork, technological literacy, and self-direction. Yet because NCLB has made accountability tests the tail that wags the dog of the whole education system -- threatening remediation and state takeover for schools that fall short -- what's not tested often isn't taught.

  • many experts tout the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) exam for its challenging, open-ended questions on practical topics, such as climate change or the pros and cons of graffiti. • static problem, for instance, would ask test takers to say from memory how to save a certain endangered bird species. A dynamic assessment (in a real example from Bransford's lab) asks students to use available resources to learn what it would take to prevent the white-eyed vireo from becoming endangered. This is a novel question that demands students independently dig for information and know enough to ask the right questions to reach a solution.

  • The British government has created a computer-literacy test that challenges teens to solve realistic problems (how to control crowds at a soccer match, for instance) using online resources. The more sophisticated these tools become, and the more adeptly test makers use them, the better assessment will be.

It is great that people have so many possibilities to learn today.

Though a lot of people still think that online education has cons (maybe it is partially true), I personally find it to be very effective. The biggest advantage for me is that students have the freedom to juggle their careers and school because they aren't tied down to a fixed schedule. It also so happened that I worked with the guys from https://writinguniverse.com/free-essay-examples/art/ and wrote an article on the topic. If done correctly, online classes can be as effective as regular school classes, even more for some students. The scientists concluded that distance learning is efficient with a quality curriculum in combination with the right method of education and pedagogical approach.

Do you usually do your homework on your own? I'm in my first year of university, and there are subjects I can't understand, and I need help with my assignments.

I am not very interested in history and therefore I would rather order a term paper than write it myself. You can also see details and order your own paper. It greatly simplifies my life and adds more free time. That is why I order there not the first and not the last time. Everything is always of high quality and on time.

Groups are vital to progress - working together to create a product is found in nearly all professions - from construction to high-tech scientific work. Up until now collaborative - group - work has been “done” but there seems to be a lack of focus on learning those essential dynamics for productive collaboration.
