    This session will describe the prefrontal cortex's role in attention, behavior and emotion and how abnormal development in this area of the brain contributes to ADHD, ODD and bipolar disorder. Dr. Arnsten will also underscore the role of stress in causing prefrontal cortical dysfunction and emerging treatments.

    Goals and Objectives:
    1) The role of the prefrontal cortex in the top-down regulation of attention, behavior and emotion.
    2) How abnormal development and dysfunction of the prefrontal cortex contributes to childhood disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder and bipolar disorder.
    3) How prefrontal cortical circuits are modulated by the arousal systems, and how stress  exposure or lead poisoning can cause prefrontal cortical dysfunction that mimics ADHD.
    4) New data on how medications used to treat ADHD can strengthen prefrontal cortical regulation through catecholamine actions on prefrontal network connections. The purpose of this webinar series is to introduce clinicians to exciting developments in neuroscience that provides complex and new understanding of developmental and behavioral disorders in children. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the structure and functioning of areas of the brain, novel ways to study the brain and emerging treatments. When:

    Debbie Moore, Partners for Work (PFW) coordinator with WiSe, will share information about the highly successful partnership project with Rotary District 5030. The Washington PFW project was started in partnership with the Auburn Rotary Club in 2003.  In 2010 the Washington PFW project expanded to become a Rotary District 5030 project. This project creates employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities by utilizing Rotarian business leaders as a vital link between job candidates and paid employment. Join Debbie for a brief history of the project and hear success stories. Learn about creative networking and marketing strategies that have helped increase involvement from rotary clubs.     Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a professional advocate? What kind of training is needed? How do I attract clients? What do I do after I'm hired? What about billing? And how do I avoid burn-out? This session provides a starting point to answer these questions. Many parents, therapists, retired school district staff, and others routinely ask me how to become a professional advocate. Of course, there is no One Right Way to do this, no certification, no road map. . . and so the goal is to help participants consider the next steps, to provide them with some information about what has worked for some professional advocates, and to connect them with resources. This presentation will cover the following issues, among others: role of the advocate, sources/types of training, work environments, attracting clients, advocate's intake and next steps, maintaining records and confidentiality, billing, pro bono work, the importance of boundaries, and networking resources. The presentation will also reference COPAA's Voluntary Code of Ethics for advocates.

    The ADA National Network Audio Conference is being offered in collaboration with the Inclusive Fitness Coalition in response to the recent guidance provided by the Office for Civil Rights clarifying public elementary and secondary schools obligations under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to provide extracurricular athletic opportunities for students with disabilities. This session will discuss key points that are addressed in this new resource. The session will provide attendees with practical advice on how schools can better integrate students with disabilities into mainstream athletic programs and as well as how to create adapted programs. The goal of this session is to raise awareness of the obligation to provide opportunities in athletics and to encourage change at the school level.

During the conference, there will be a Real LIfe Fair with vendors representing education, idependent living, recreation, employment, and other supportive services. Presenters will include well known keynotes as well as Montanans who have themselves gone through the transition process and can offer insight, guidance and support. 2013 COPAA Conference Request for Proposals Now Open - 0 views

    The 15th Annual COPAA Conference in  Albuquerque, NM, March 7-10th is your best opportunity for training and networking with the most experienced and knowledgeable special education advocates and attorneys on special education issues. The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) is an independent, nonprofit membership organization of special education attorneys, special education advocates, related professionals, and parents/family members. Disseminating knowledge of protections under the law, advocacy strategy, and educational best practice is an important part of leveling the playing field and enabling parents to meaningfully participate in their child's educational programs. The 2013 Conference Committee is now accepting proposals to present a breakout session as part of the conference. Breakout sessions are 1 hour and 15 min in length and are held on Saturday, March 9th and Sunday, March 10th. (Note: Attorneys who represent education agencies and current employees of education agencies who receive greater than 50% of income from school district are not eligible to attend the conference or submit proposals.)
