children who are deaf and hard of hearing. If you are an early
interventionist, classroom teacher, teacher of the deaf, special
educator, speech-language pathologist, audiologist, program or
school administrator, or member of a state EHDI team these
workshops are designed to build foundational knowledge about
hearing loss and the exciting technological advances that
support listening and spoken language for these children today.
Every member of the child's intervention team will find practical
tips and proven strategies for promoting collaboration to support
infants, young children and their families, as well as student

What:
Families in Partnership Inc. is gearing up for the 6th annual Families in Partnership Early Childhood Fair (formerly The Prenatal to Five Fair). We are looking for community resources who might want to participate by entering to have a table with information and children's activities. The theme for the fair is "Plant a seed and watch it grow." The idea of the early childhood fair is to provide community resources, in one location, at one time, at no cost. The fair is met to be fun, but informational and connect young families to needed community resources. A few of the many opportunities available at the fair are a kids zumba class (MAC), Libby Fire Department puppet show, Frontier Communications kids fingerprint kits, Quasadillas by Rosita's, face painting and more. There are no fees for having a table at the fair, but we require that you do not sell anything at your table; rather, offer free information and children's activities. When:

Alaina Buffalo Spirit began her journey as a self-taught artist in 2004. It was through the tragic loss of her only son that Alaina found solace in art. She was chosen as the 2010 Featured Artist of the Great Falls Indian Art Show in Great Falls, as well as a One-Woman Art Show at the Uprising Gallery in Bozeman in 2011. Most recently, Alaina was chosen to represent Montana by designing ornaments for the national Christmas tree in Washington, D.C. She chose the Chief Dull Knife College, representing the Northern Cheyenne nation, to work with the project. Ledger art derives from Plains Indian Biographic art, which recorded actual events important in the lives of individuals and groups, usually as naturalistic action scenes composed primarily of horses, humans, weapons, and tipis. Click here to read the full report (.pdf) As we all know, children/youth with special health care needs eventually become adults, many of whom will continue to have health challenges or disabilities but will want to join the workforce.  This week, in anticipation of the July 26 anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) issued a report entitled "Unfinished Business: Making Employment of People with Disabilities a National Priority."  The report notes that there has been little to no change in the overall employment rates of people with disabilities since passage of the ADA almost 22 years ago.  Committee Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA), announced a goal to increase the number of people with disabilities in the workforce from under five million to six million by 2015.  He plans to introduce a series of bipartisan bills aimed at:  improving outcomes in transitioning young adults from school to work; increasing opportunities for people with disabilities to own a business; encouraging states to be innovative with programs that provide support to people with disabilities; and providing incentives for people with disabilities to save in order to ensure their economic security.

The camp is free, and open to all young women finishing 7th or 8th grade in the Bozeman area.  The program will consist of a five-day summer camp (taught by K-12 teachers and faculty from MSU), followed by work on individual projects (with mentorship by undergraduate math majors and faculty members), culminating in a poster presentation in December of 2012. What:
Families and educators need continued assistance with resources that teach life skills to assist individuals with autism as they negotiate important transitions in their lives. This two day conference will provide information and hands-on experience that will help you assist children and young adults on the spectrum to discover their unique interests and abilities. Fostering self-identity that will prepare individuals with autism for lifelong inclusion in the community that will maximize their independence, productivity, and enjoyment. Successful early transitions will help pave the way for future transitions. Some individuals on the spectrum will pursue higher education and competitive employment opportunities while others are more limited. Beyond their varied abilities and interests, limited social skills for nearly all individuals with autism make it difficult for them to adjust to new school environments, different living arrangements, college and the workplace. With proper support and services from teachers, mentors, co-workers and job coaches who understand these special needs, we believe all individuals can be supported to lead happier, more productive and independent lives. In addition to information about transitions, educators and family members attending this year's conference will be able to participate in activities often used in therapy and successful educational environments. What: "Mystery in Helena" is a collaboration between local businesses and the Montana Youth Leadership Forum (MYLF) as MYLF hosts a "murder mystery" fund raising event. The event is an interactive mystery game, a scenario where the audience solves the murder of fictitious character "Wyatt Twerp." The Mystery takes place in 1878 in Dodge City, Kansas. Attendees will serve as detectives and encouraged to come in costume to fit the era. Prizes will be given for best costume, best detective, and other categories. There will be two offerings of the event during the day. Money raised will be used to sponsor youth to the 2014 Forum, purchase iPads, and create a promotional video that can recruit more youth to the program. Through years of researching, evaluating, treating, and coaching youth and adults, Dr. Fruge' and Dr. Green-Fruge' have developed an innovative program called Preparing the Mind for Success and Competition (PMSC), which is primarily focused on At-Risk youth and young adults. Dr. Fruge' and Dr. Green-Fruge' will present their preliminary research on this innovative program and its practical application. The goal of the workshop is to provide attendants with a Functional Cultural Context to understand and navigate common challenges faced when working with At-Risk youth. Attendants will be introduced to training and psycho-therapeutic approaches to support At-Risk youth in their transition to adulthood and success.

What:
Dr. Temple Grandin will give a presentation regarding her experiences with early educational intervention, sensory problems, autistic thinking process, learning sound skills, and potential employment opportunities. Dr. Grandin at a young age exhibited signs of severe autism, however, she was able to find her niche after developing a connection with livestock. She will also address other topics including key aspects of developing the autistic mind.
