Nearly one-sixth of teens who own cell phones have received nude or nearly nude images via text message from someone they know, according to a recent survey on "sexting" from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. When people take sexually revealing pictures of themselves and send them as text message attachments, it's called "sexting." Recently the practice has been increasing exponentially. There are many examples of teens taking revealing photos or videos of themselves and having those images end up in the wrong hands. A parent handout providing advice about talking with your teen about sexting is available on the Common Sense Media

Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM) provide the same content as traditional classroom materials such as textbooks, but deliver the information in a way that students with print-based disabilities can use more easily. Parents, family members, Parent Center staff, and others are invited to attend this webinar to learn about a 4-step process that can be used to determine whether a child with a disability needs AIM and how to work with the school to access them. Presenters from the National Center on Accessible Instructional Materials at CAST and PACER Center will use scenarios of children with different types of disabilities to provide examples of how the AIM decision making process works.

Congress passed a bill on Tuesday night that would make the Internet and mobile phones more accessible to people with disabilities. The legislation will go to President Obama next week to sign into law. Advocates for the blind and deaf say the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act would ensure that Web sites and makers of consumer electronics consider the vision- and hearing-impaired, who have been left behind as more communications tools move to the Web.
