The world spends money trying to build armies, fight wars and and build econimies which helps the rich but does nothing for the people in poverty. I think this is surprising that the world focuses on helping themselves and not the people that need it but I can beleive that the countries are trying to make themselves more powerful and poverty is a result.

This is a short, simplen paragraph, that does exactly what the title says. It really made me upset reading it, because poverty happens everywhere, and can happen to anyone. Sometimes, it isn't anyone's fault. Some people are born into it. and poverty can be a result of no enough education. I feel very fortunate that both my parents have good jobs, and are educated. I know that some people aren't that lucky.

this shows the results of poverty and how it affects world hunger. I was very surprised after i read about how much things most people that are being affected by poverty can't get. I was also very surprised on how many children die of poverty in under 5 years.

With so many children dieing I almost wish people wouldn't have babies if they can't feed them because in the end the child will die.

Poverty Threshold is different that poverty guidelines. Threshold is normaly used for statistics, such as estimating the number of Americans in poverty. Poverty guidelines are used for administrative purposes, such as seeing if someone meets the requirments of certain programs. The poverty guildelines may also be known as 'federal poverty level.' (There are charts showing the poverty guidelines for different family sizes that live in the 48 connected staes, Alaska, and Hawii) The poverty guideline changes depending on where you live. \nI was surprized to see that in 2009 Alaska had the highest poverty guideline at $13,530 and the 48 connected states had the lowest with $10,830. I also cant imagine my family of six living off $29,530. It also makes me think about all the other nessesities that we take for granted and how people living in poverty would be really greatful for them.

Knowing that women are the poorest gender is both outragoious and agreeable. Since women are the care takers in the family. But losing 85% of calories getting water, is unhealthy and sad.

i think that if women got the same oppritunties as men like in jobs and education, there would be less problem with poverty in women.

This talks about the long term effects of poverty and has a few paragraphs about understanding generational poverty. Reading the effects, I wasn't to surprised because I can see all of that happening to children and families in poverty.

The article seems to really talk a lot about how poverty affects the life of a person. It's terrible how those with less money have so many more difficulties than those who have money. Basic needs should have no price.

This article is about understanding the numbers of how many people are affected by poverty, It states that one in 8 are living in terrible circumstances and it lookes at the different aspects of being "poor" and how that persons finacial stus may have been looking different in different decades.

This is Times magazine article about the number of kids who are homless in the U,S. A few statistics: Texas (337,105), California (292,624), Louisiana (204,053), Georgia (58,397) and Florida (49,886).

If i was one of those kids i would go mad out of my mind. Think of the kids who are 9 and younger live out side don't have food every day. How would you fill?

That just feels so unfair that kids are just born into this kinda thing. It's pretty sad that they can't get the right education to be successful in their lives because they were born poor :(((((

Pretty much just some statistics on poverty and hunger in the US. One fact i thought was suprising was "Nearly one in four children is at risk of hunger. Among African-Americans and Latinos, one in three children is at risk of hunger."

This site talked about ways to help with poverty. I liked how it listed different sites you could go to for more information and besides that really just educated the reader. I feel that it's format could have been different though so as not to bore the reader.

That is rediculous how many people die every year from poverty! I cant even begin to imagine what it would be like to live in a situation like those people were in. Not having enough food, or a warm place to sleep at night

This is an article that came out March 30, 2010. A personal story about a girl coming out from college trying to find a way in this world. It also talks about the live's of black families and white families and comparing their wealth.

I liked the last part that said with personal education comes, the need for others to be educated. I thought this was really good because it was saying that the first and most important step to helping others in poverty is to be educated well.

I think that it's really interesting that education is one of the big reasons people are in poverty. If we could give everyone a proper education, we could probably take a lot of people out of poverty.

It really scares me to know that one child dies every five seconds from hunger. Also, it was eye-opening to see that 9 million kids die of hunger before their fifth birthday. I think it's really unfair that someone that young has to go through such living.

925 million people are hungry. They cant put food on their tables. I think we take it for granted. We always have food in our fridges, we always have food on our tables. We need to appreciate more for what we get. Next time our moms put something on the table we don't like, you should still appreciate that you get food in your bodies. There are millions people out there that would do anything for just a thing of spinach.

I think the saddest thing about this is that there is so much good info and statistics out there, like this website, but so many people don't know how bad poverty really is. I had no idea that poverty was this bad, or that it was increasing this fast.

One of the Millienium goals is to "Halve, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people whose income is less than $1 a day." This article gives statistics and ways people have begun to reach the goal.

Article on Ohio have one of the highest "rates of poverty and some of the lowest household income. This came as an eye opener that poverty is closer to us than we sometimes think. In our perspective Ohio would never look like the place with one of the highest rates of poverty and lowest household income but this article really opened my eyes.

This Article was about the percent of people in poverty living in factory town. I was really amazed that east Cleveland leads the state in poverty.

This article gives information about why the worst poverty in Ohio exists and what is being done about poverty in Ohio. It gives poverty rates of counties and it saddens me when I saw that east Cleveland has 32% rate of poverty. It makes me think that maybe as Phoenix we could help reach out to people and give them something that could change their life.

I thought that it was really sad when they said that one of the reasons people are in poverty is because they are disabled mentally or physically. Another reason that people are in poverty is because they have little to no education which is one reason they can't get a job. I thought that these were reasons that we take for granite everyday. We complain about going to school, but i bet most people in poverty wish they were where we are now.
