It's so sad to see all those kids but it's good to see that they're coming together and they have hope. I like the picture with the road through it.
  •
seeing this makes me sad :(
  •
I like how in the pictures, most of the people are smiling. (:
  •
I think that we take so much for granted and the people that have barely anything are like: OOOHHHHH A PIECE OF BREAD!!!! and we are like.. : wahoo... bread... :|
  •
These pictures made me hopeful. Generous souls are helping these people, and perhaps their lives can be better because of their support (:
  •
I like the photoset called listening. I think that to truly understand and educate ourselves about poverty, we have to first listen to the needs of those who are living with it. Very interesting picture.
  •

  •

In Ohio, Marriage Drops the Probability of Child Poverty by 87 Percent - 1 views

  •
this article has a suprising chart that shows the difference in poverty rates between a married couple with kids and a single mother with the same amount of kids
  •
Do you think that even if a single mother had a good education she would still be in poverty? I think so IFF the child or children could take care of themselves long enough for the mother to find a decent job to support the family.
  •
that very interesting. i never would have thought that married families are at less risk of poverty affecting them, but now that i think about it i guess they could both work and would get more money then one person.

It is extremly eye openeing learning that 1 in 8 americans are on food stamps, i never knew poverty was climbing so quickly. if i had to go to walmart at midnight for food because i've been waiting a week for it, i would be depressed. and it isn't fair that these people only get half of what we spend, but still make it last a week longer than the avarage american would have.
  •
I found it terrible that it was really hard to find help from food pantries when people were starving. It would be so much better if the food pantries could be easier for these starving people to get access to
  •
Dude that's all kinds of wrong! I really don't think it was a bright idea for the city to cut the food pantry budgets.... Just, ehh, wrong. -_-
  •
that's sad. It seems like Philadelphia doesn't really know what is going on with their poverty level
  •
It bothered me that budgets qere cut when the number of struggling families rose! I don't like that so many people in poverty are children.
  •
whats wrong with Philly. cutting food pantries while so many people go hungry. that's really sad. :(
  •
thats not cool. that made me sad. Philadelphia is making a very bad decision i feel.
  •
Why would you you do a budget cut for a food pantry when tones of familys need the most help they can get.
  •
Thye decision to cut Philadelphia's food pantry, is cutting on human lives. People who are in poverty are starving in Philadelphia, and whithout people alive in Philadelphia, then what, or where is Philadelphia?!

The BIG Picture - 1 views

Stopping extreme poverty is somehwhat very difficult. But these people think its very possible. They think poverty can be reduced in the year 2015 and can be extremly reduced in the year 2025. In my opinion, this is a goal that is very hard to reach, Especially with our economy today. But it is possible.

  •
The poverty rate in columbus is starting to show in the schools. As other articles have said, poverty influences not only physical, but mental health. I think the capacity at which poverty is rising is dramatic, and the fact that it has seeped into schools in astounding,

I was surprized to see that poverty in the Columbus district is the highest percent, at 82%. I thought that Columbus would be one of the disticts that had a lower rate of poverty.
  •
i think caroline is right. its sad that the government has tostep in and lower the cost of luinches for some people because america is so poor
  •
i hadn't ever realized how many people in the columbus area were in poverty like the columbus school district all the way up at 82%

THis article talks about poverty and tells us how we can help prevent it. It also has some facts about poverty like how many live in poverty on average.
  •
I can't even imagine trying to live on less than $1.25 a day. It's great to know that, in the past 30 years, the amount of people in the world having to live like this has halved, from 1.9 billion to 1.4 billion. We still have a long, long way to go! This site can give us some ideas on how to change things for the better for our generation, and generations to come.
  •
I think it's uplifting to know that although poverty isn't over yet we have soultions to help end it
  •
That is so awesome how so many people around the world are commiting to help the poverty project.
  •
i think that it is cool that so many people are joining together and helping people below the line and trying to help one anyother!
