This will depend on your contract of employment, as Paternity leave is not recognised in employment law in Ireland. In other words, employers are not obliged to grant male employees special paternity leave (either paid or unpaid) following the birth of their child.
If you are not working, make direct contact with your local social welfare office for payment rates and conditions. Different conditions apply if you have worked and have relevant social insurance contributions. Bring your birth certificate with you.
