ICT and the Australian Curriculum | Australian Council for Computers in Education - 2 views

  •
This paper discusses four key concerns about this current situation and proposes and justifies a solution whereby ICT would be a learning area in its own right, either within the framework of the Technologies or as a new learning area. Structurally this learning area would document the student learning expectations and standards for ICT as a GC as well as a discipline.

There are some great ideas for educating young people about Shakespeare. The different ideas would be easy to adapt to any classroom situation and allow students to explore and develop a deeper understanding of the plays, characterizations and structures.

It's time to kill the timetable  | Innovative pedagogy - Dean Pearman - 2 views

  •
" What if we changed the time table in the same way. What if student's came to school to learn and not just move from class to class. What if we changed how we use time? Is our current school structures killing learning? "

Towards a pedagogy for life-worthy learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
In the contemporary classroom, there is much greater consideration of what the learner does in partnership with their teacher so that they develop the capacity to learn. Classroom routines and structures are designed to engage the learner in a rich process of dialogical learning.

Thinking in the Wild - Thinking routines beyond the classroom - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Despite this being a 'thinking' conference, despite us all being advocates for structured and scaffolded models of thinking, not one group had applied any thinking routines, utilised a collaborative planning protocol or talked about applying an inquiry model or design thinking cycle. It wasn't that we didn't know about them. It wasn't that we don't know how to use them. It wasn't that we don't value them. We had all the knowledge we could desire on the how to and the why of a broad set of thinking tools and anyone of these would have enhanced the process, but we did not use any of them. Why was this the case and what does this reveal about our teaching of these methods to our students?

On the path to creativity - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
The difficulty with creativity is it is not easy and perhaps thanks to our experience of schooling not a natural attribute of many adults. What creativity needs is a process and/or a structure that allows us to bring our intellect to the development of creative solutions.

Are we there yet? Are we there? - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
This much-maligned question seems so appropriate for education's recent history. All that was normal, everything that was routine, all of our structures, have been turned upside down and hurled into the wind of COVID19. From having spoken of a future dominated by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA), we have found ourselves living in it. Innovation and creativity became the new normal as we "Apollo 13" schooling into a model that met the demands of emergency remote learning. The pressure, the workload, the demands on our time and the cognitive load have all been immense, and so it seems fitting to ask "Are we there yet?".

Insect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 1 views

  • The life cycles of insects vary but most hatch from eggs. Insect growth is constrained by the inelastic exoskeleton and development involves a series of molts. The immature stages can differ from the adults in structure, habit and habitat and can include a passive pupal stage in those groups that undergo complete metamorphosis. Insects that undergo incomplete metamorphosis lack a pupal stage and adults develop through a series of nymphal stages.[7] The higher level relationship of the hexapoda is unclear. Fossilized insects of enormous size have been found from the Paleozoic Era, including giant dragonflies with wingspans of 55 to 70 cm (22–28 in). The most diverse insect groups appear to have coevolved with flowering plants.
  • Male moths can sense the pheromones of female moths over distances of many kilometers. Other species communicate with sounds: crickets stridulate, or rub their wings together, to attract a mate and repel other males. Lampyridae in the beetle order Coleoptera communicate with light.

What is UDL? Universal Design for Learning is born out of the broad principles for Universal Design in architecture. An architect working with Universal Design will consider all of the potential users of a structure, assess their individual needs and then develop a response that meets all of these needs.
