Blogging is a very public activity. Anything that gets posted on the internet stays there. Forever.

Mission to Learn contains links to 26 ethical games, some browser based and others for download. Most are free though in most instances donations are encouraged. Educators have traditionally helped parents teach young people about appropriate behavior towards others. Now, with the explosion of social media, educators can be part of a larger conversation with young people about digital citizenship and online behavior. We will discuss more about what digital citizenship means in Section 4. As educators you can instruct them in safe, ethical, and responsible Internet use

Spend time the first class creating rules with the class. It starts the students thinking , bonding, and taking responsibility for their own education. The infographic here gives you a good framework

"Digital Information Fluency (DIF) is the ability to find, evaluate and use digital information effectively, efficiently and ethically. DIF involves knowing how digital information is different from print information; having the skills to use specialized tools for finding digital information; and developing the dispositions needed in the digital information environment. As teachers and librarians develop these skills and teach them to students, students will become better equipped to achieve their information needs."

It is relatively easy for someone to SCARE parents away from the Internet. There ARE bad things and people making bad choices on the Internet, but there are many compelling resources and interactive tools available which can be used for learning and communication. In this wiki presentation, Wes Fryer focusses on practical things parents can do with children of different ages to promote safe online behavior and also help young people develop the ethical capacities to make good decisions as well as remain open to communicating about their online experiences with others.

A new report suggests that many schools are not adequately preparing students to be safe in today's digitally connected age, and it cites basic online safety and ethics as two areas in which students need more education. The report, "State of K-12 Cyberethics, Cybersafety, and Cybersecurity Curriculum in the United States," was published by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and sponsored by Microsoft.

What is the difference between blogging and curation if they are both about finding and sharing great content?  According to Deanna Dahlsad at Kitsch-Slapped, is the focus. While bloggers often cover anything that interests them as the are online where as curators are characterized by a strong focus on a specific topic.  

The collaborative opportunities that the web offers can easily be mirrored within the four walls of the classroom. We should provide students with the right environment where they can work in teams and mentor each other.
