Andrew Churches extrapolates from ancient Rome in this excellent discussion on 6 tenets of Digital Citizenship. As he says, "The internet is a little like the proverbial elephant that never forgets. Our digital footprints are not like the footprints on the beach, washed away by the next wave or rising tide. Rather they are like footprints left to dry in the wet concrete of the footpath."

"Internet safety" is mostly about behavior in the blended world where kids live on and offline. How they treat themselves and others has a big impact on whether their experiences will be good or bad.  And it's true for adults as well. While there are unique aspects to protecting yourself online, many of the major online risk factors -- especially for children -- have their offline equivalents.

We're currently revising the NetSafe CyberSafe Schools programme to create a more learner centered approach to Digital Citizenship We are looking to recruit classroom teachers, school administrators, and students to our online panel of expert advisers. This online panel, the NetSafe Education Network, will be invited to comment on digital citizenship discussion documents from time to time. We are looking for contributions on what New Zealand schools, the Ministry of Education and NetSafe could do to ensure young people have the skills and attributes to be good citizens in a digital age.

eEtiquette is a simple site that exists for the purpose of sharing electronic etiquette tips. The tips cover everything from email etiquette to social network etiquette to cell phone etiquette. Although the title says there are 101 guidelines there are actually more than 101 guidelines on the site now. Some of the best etiquette guidelines are available on a free poster that you can download from eEtiquette.

Developed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority's Cybersmart program, Tagged is recommended for use with students aged 14 and over. Tagged is supported by lesson plans and compelling character reflection interviews. It explores themes of personal and peer safety and responsibility that are crucial to maintaining positive online behaviours and digital reputation into adulthood.
