CNN Transcript - Larry King Live Weekend: A Look Back at Mark David Chapman in His Own ... - 0 views

  • I went to an art gallery, and Robert Goulet was there and Leslie Nielsen was there. And I just wanted to be around them. And I had my picture taken with Robert Goulet -- I don't think this has ever come out. And I felt important while I was with them. And then after, you disintegrate again. You become nothing.
  • Before, everything was like dead calm. And I was ready for this to happen. I even heard a voice, my own, inside me say do it, do it, do it. You know, here we go. And then afterwards, it was like the film strip broke. I fell in upon myself. I like went into a state of shock. I stood there with the gun hanging limply down at my right side
  • This thing started, Larry, when I got angry at Lennon. I found a book in the library that showed him on the roof of the Dakota, and you're familiar with the Dakota, it's a very nice, sumptuous building. And, remember I'm in a different state of mind and I'm falling in on myself, and I'm angry at seeing him on the Dakota and I say to myself, that phony, that bastard.

  • Some psychologists say he was killing his father but, I think, on a much more relevant level he was killing a part of all of us. He wanted to hurt the world.
  • Chapman told me at one point that he fantasized about getting his hands on nuclear devices and maybe blowing up a small city, injuring or killing thousands, if not millions, of people -- and reasoned that, by killing someone that most of the people in the world identified with or had been touched by in one way or the other he could hurt us all, and he did.
  •
Chapman's references to his fading away self is interestingly similar to Holden "disappearing" as mental breakdown. But Salinger never had Holden be harming to others and had him find release and meaning in the innocence of children.

Michael Duffy - First World War.com - Site Information - About This Site - 0 views

  •
The purpose of this website is to provide a summary overview of the First World War. A word of caution however; this is by no means an academic website. It's authored as spare time permits and is geared towards a general rather than scholarly readership. Given this, it is not recommended that this site be used for academic reference purposes for school or university papers. This does not so much indicate a concerning lack of authorial confidence in the accuracy of site content as an acknowledgement that material on the site has not been submitted for formal peer review.

Why iPads Aren't Ready For Classrooms... Yet - 1 views

  • Here's the thing, though: at some point, probably not too far into the future, many of these problems will be overcome. Textbooks are coming en masse to the iPad, even if they're not here yet. The price of tablets will plummet in the same way laptops have, and smartphones. There will be an abundance of education apps that will unlock the iPad's true potential as a learning device beyond just being another ebook reader. Apple may someday even adopt a Pixel Qi-type display that's easier on the eyes, or an input method that improves on the onscreen keyboard or keyboard accessories. And when those things happen, the iPad and other tablets will be terrific schoolroom companions.

Solutions to Deforestation | Greenpeace - 0 views

  • forests are being logged for timber and paper pulp and cleared to grow mono-crops like soy and palm oil while they are deteriorating from the impacts of global warming. Deforestation is a major driver of global warming, responsible for up to 20 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions–more than all the cars, trucks, planes, boats and trains in the world combined.
  • What you can do Wield your consumer power! Make sure that the forest derived products you buy are made from 100% post-consumer content materials Buy only from companies that have a commitment to reducing deforestation through an environmentally friendly purchasing policy If you are buying products made from virgin forest fiber, make sure that it bears a seal from a credible forestry certification system, like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Read more about the FSC and false forms of forest certification As a consumer ask questions about how the products you buy impact the forests. Educate your friends, family, and community about how our actions here can impact forests thousands of miles away.

Academic Earth - J D Salinger, Franny and Zooey - 0 views

  •
In this lecture on J. D. Salinger's Franny and Zooey, Professor Hungerford presents her argument about religion in the novel as an example to students of how to construct a sound literary critical paper using evidence from the text. Moving between large claims and close readings, Hungerford shows how Salinger prevents his investment in mysticism from becoming mystification by grounding his sense of the divine in the specificity of persons, the importance of family language and love.
