Oracle Financial Services has expanded its Oracle Financial Services Enterprise Risk Management suite to include a new model risk management solution, as well as enhanced offerings for regulatory capital management and credit risk management. Oracle's Enterprise Risk Management suite, part of the Oracle Financial Services Analytical Applications family, provides a single, unified platform that helps today's financial institutions meet increasingly complex compliance requirements and performance objectives. The end-to-end platform enables financial services organizations to effectively identify and manage risk to support their risk-adjusted performance objectives, promote a proactive risk management culture and mitigate the costs of compliance. Model Risk Management To meet evolving regulatory mandates, financial institutions require a comprehensive view of risks associated with inaccurate or improperly applied financial and business models. Many firms are struggling to achieve this transparency because they continue to manage their models in siloed environments. Oracle Financial Services Model Risk Management provides a common environment to manage all risks associated with the use of models, including risks arising due to poor data quality, incorrect or inappropriate use, design flaws, incorrect implementation and unauthorized access. The July 12 issue of eCampus News includes an article discussing recent changes in colleges students' financial aid packages caused by Congress's sequestration talks. The article includes comment from Oracle customer, Marquette University in which Tara O'Neill, Associate Director of the Office of Finance and Student Financial Aid noted that if this would have happened in the mid-2000s, schools would not be able to make the proper adjustments needed. However, with technological advancements in its financial aid office, Marquette was able to notify students of possible aid changes within 30 minutes of getting word from the federal government. The article notes that Marquette uses PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Student Financing system which provides constant updates to federal rules and regulations surrounding financial aid.

The March 21 edition of ExecutiveBiz includes the following blog post highlighting that California State University (CSU) is implementing Oracle's PeopleSoft Applications in its efforts to standardize financial management processes and systems across its 23 campuses.  The blog post notes that the integrated financial management solutions will provide a consolidated platform for the school to complete financial operations including general ledger, billing and purchasing.  The blog post also notes that CSU will use Oracle's PeopleSoft Human Capital Management and Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.

The August 7 edition of Campus Technology includes the following article highlighting Montclair State University's adoption of Oracle's PeopleSoft Financial Management System (FMS).  PeopleSoft FMS will enable Montclair to make optimal financial decisions, develop effective short- and long-term strategies to support the university's growth and emerging needs, and to integrate and streamline financial processes across departments.  The university plans to complete the first phase of implementation by July 2015, and the full implementation by January 2016.

Accenture and Oracle have developed a new cloud-based financial solution designed to help hospitality companies improve business management by giving them better access to real-time financial data. The Accenture Oracle business group's new hospitality finance cloud solution enables companies to access financial data in real-time from multiple data sources, such as internal property management systems and external financial institutions, and connects to existing on-property systems to automate workflow approvals and establish standardized operations processes.

The September issue of University Business includes the following article highlighting how financial aid offices are drowning in a sea of reports, but the right software and strategies can make it possible to handle the increase in reports. The article highlights how universities, such as California State University (CSU), and software providers are handling the data deluge. The article includes comment from Dean Kulju, director of student financial services and programs, California State University, who notes that he likes the flexibility of CSU's software (Oracle PeopleSoft for the majority of campuses) and the ability it gives CSU to customize but he would like to see more movement towards providing universally accepted or required reports being used by institutions nationally. I am with Jon at the Oracle Industry Connect this week. Of course I have enjoyed connecting with those I know, but I must admit it is also enjoyable meeting people from other industries like life sciences, healthcare, financial services, insurance and education. Sometimes I forget that there are industries other than hospitality. I have enjoyed meeting these people from other industries, but it is amazing how they all want to really know what the hotel industry is all about. When your business is about where people eat, drink and sleep I guess it does sound a bit more intriguing than the banking industry. It has been an enjoyable two days and no matter how often we interact with others in the industry, nothing beats face to face. There was a great crowd from the hospitality space with a lot of the higher ups from the industry attending. It was nice seeing so many making time to come to this event. I thank Oracle for inviting me and after the events Hospitality Upgrade put on last week I am very thankful I just get to attend, not having to speak nonstop. Thank you, Jon, for making this week's Siegel Sez easier as I sit in my hotel room in Washington, D.C., at 5:30 in the morning trying to be creative after a night of eating and drinking at the Smithsonian Castle.

The November 7 issue of The Financial includes an article announcing that University of Akron has implemented Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management hosted on Oracle Cloud Solutions for Education and Research.   The article also notes that the university also deployed PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management solutions including Financial Analytics, Human Capital Management Warehouse and Supply Chain Analytics.  The article notes that University of Akron will leverage Oracle solutions as a part of its Vision 2020 - a strategic plan designed to grow enrollment, improve the learning experience and increase funding for student programs, faculty, research, campus and community.

The article notes that UC Berkeley successfully upgraded ahead of schedule and under budget, and is looking to add even more functionality through 2015.

The March 22 edition of Campus Technology includes the following article highlighting that California State University (CSU) has standardized its financial, human resources, student administration and alumni development systems across all 23 of its campuses and the Office of the Chancellor.  The article notes that the university is using Oracle's PeopleSoft Applications hosted on the Unisys Hosted Secure Private Cloud Solution.  The article also notes that Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, MO, has expanded its implementation of Oracle's PeopleSoft Applications to include PeopleSoft Human Resources, Payroll for North America, Benefits, Campus Solutions and Financial Management, in addition to PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) and PeopleTools.

The March 23 edition of eCampus News includes the following article highlighting that California State University (CSU) is currently standardizing its 23-campus system and the Chancellor's Office on Oracle's PeopleSoft Applications.  The article notes that as part of the university's strategic plan, Access to Excellence, CSU has made a commitment to take advantage of technology to meet future educational needs and has created the Common Management Systems (CMS).  The article also notes that in an effort to improve efficiency and reduce costs system wide, CSU has consolidated its financial management processes and systems onto PeopleSoft Financial Management.

The May 2013 edition of Business Officer includes an article highlighting the increase in institutions moving to responsibility center management (RCM). The article highlights several universities using RCM including the University of Florida who abandoned their traditional incremental budgeting in 2011 because it lacked transparency and didn't provide the incentives or resources to grow, change, or shrink programs. The article includes comment based off the interview with Matthew Fajack, vice president and chief financial officer and Sheri Austin, assistant vice president and director of university budgets. Matthew noted the university achieved its goal on the transparency side allowing people to now understand their costs and where revenues come from. Sheri further explained that RCM isn't the culprit in dwindling budgets but rather state appropriations that prompted budget cuts. The article notes that since RCM was implemented, all of the responsibility centers at the university have been able to meet the budget or, come very close.

The article notes that this move is part of the university's Roadmap Project, a three-year program slated to run through spring 2014 that includes - in addition to an internal private cloud with virtual servers and storage - expanding the university's data warehouse and use of business intelligence; developing an individualized, unified Web experience; improving and streamlining identity management and security; and expanding and improving document management. The article includes comment by Max Davis-Johnson, associate vice president of information technology, Boise State University, who noted that Oracle's PeopleSoft suite allows the university to tie together cloud services and partners to the university's enterprise systems confidently and securely, no matter where or who they are.

The May 14 edition of The FINANCIAL includes an article highlighting Oracle's announcement that Columbus State University implemented its Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. The article notes that Columbus State University worked with Oracle for improved reporting accuracy and timeliness to conform to Georgia's "Complete College Georgia" plan, which seeks to increase the number of Georgia's young adults who obtain a college degree. The integration of Oracle's Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition created a single knowledge repository, bringing together the university's student information system, facility management, and PeopleSoft applications. The article includes comment from Cole Clark, global vice president, education and research industries, Oracle, who notes that with Oracle's Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, Columbus State University can bring together student and faculty information and spend more time developing programs and making informed decisions.
