The October 22 issue of Campus Technology include an article highlighting two recent Oracle announcements regarding Oracle Exadata Database Machine and new features released for Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. The article notes that Northern Illinois University (NIU) implemented two Oracle Exadata Database Machines and includes comment from Steven Pace, associate director of the Division of Finance and Facilities at NIU. He notes that Oracle Exadata Database Machine improved the university's administrative system availability and reliability, and accelerated batch run times. The article also notes that University of Arkansas implemented two Oracle Exadata Database Machines to improve the performance of its PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Oracle WebCenter Content. Additionally, Brigham Young University consolidated 50 database servers and storage systems with Oracle Exadata Database Machine to help improve performance of its Oracle campus systems. Finally, the article also includes information regarding the new features Oracle released for its PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite. The article notes the new program-based enrollment functionality is designed to help students plan their path to degree completion, and the new assessment feature helps instructors to define and assess any type of learning activities.

With the help of OPN member Enkitec, Transplace is migrating its existing Oracle data warehouse running on IBM servers to a quarter-rack Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2 system. Transplace expects its Oracle Exadata system to be in production in June

The November 8 edition of eCampus News includes the following press release announcing that University of Minnesota has implemented Oracle Exadata Database Machine to improve database administration efficiency.  The release includes comment by Patton Fast, senior director and enterprise architecture, University of Minnesota, who notes that the Exadata platform has been an enabler for the university to reduce total cost of ownership related to supporting Oracle databases because the university was able to drive the adoption of best practices and dramatically reduce the amount of infrastructure required.

The November 30 issue of University Business includes the following article highlighting that University of Minnesota selected Oracle Exadata Database Machine to reduce its data center footprint and enhance performance and manageability.  The article notes that by hosting its IT environment on two Oracle Exadata Database Machine half racks, the University of Minnesota consolidated more than 200 Oracle database instances into fewer than 20, enabling it to reduce data center floor space and total cost of ownership.

The November/December issue of Oracle Magazine included an article about how organizations use Oracle Exadata Database Machine for increased efficiency, private cloud solutions, consolidation, and database as a service (DBaaS). The article highlights the University of Minnesota's DBaaS implementation to create its database hotel, which it developed to provide faster, more flexible, and more efficient service to all university departments. The university has two Oracle Exadata Database Machines and Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) for high availability. It also uses the Data Guard feature for disaster recovery capabilities. The university can now return registration results within seconds, even during peak registration periods, and through centralized IT, it enables departments to manage their own databases.

IQNavigator, a provider of services procurement and extended workforce solutions, has invested in Oracle® Exadata Database Machine X2-2 to power its core online transaction processing (OLTP) and real-time reporting services.

Highlighting that Oracle announced that Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management 2.0.1, running with Oracle Exadata Database Machine X2-2 and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud X2-2, processed 1 billion meter reads per hour. The release also notes that Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management running on Oracle Exadata helps utilities process data at unprecedented rates -- turning data into real intelligence that improves operational efficiency across every department while enabling utilities to provide their customers with information that helps them monitor and manage their energy and water use. The release includes comments from Linda Jackman, group vice president of industry strategy, Oracle Utilities noting that Oracle hardware and software can process the huge volumes of data arriving from interval reads and ensure the usability of the data to produce the accurate, timely bills customers expect.

The July 11 edition of Campus Technology included the following article highlighting Stephen F. Austin (SFA) University's upgrade to Oracle Exadata Database Machine with an Oracle Exadata quarter rack to support its enterprise resource planning (ERP). The article notes that SFA had previously used a combination of solutions from multiple vendors but had a system that was unreliable and lacked scalability. Further, the article explains that the university can now support up to 2,000 concurrent users on its ERP and SIS systems, has a system with fewer bottlenecks and downtime, and has reduced staff overtime and simplified the system upgrade process.

Groupware Technology, Inc., a Platinum level partner of Oracle Partner Network (OPN), announced that it has purchased and implemented an Oracle Exadata Database Machine within its state-of-the-art technology lab.

Groupware announced that it has achieved the OPN Specialization for Oracle Exadata Database Machine.

The press release notes that Oracle Exadata Database Machine has enabled colleges and universities nationwide to improve application performance, reduce server footprints, and simplify IT maintenance. Like the other Oracle Retail Analytics modules, the new application is optimized to run on Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud. Built on Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, the solutions can deliver reports to mobile devices and desktops in a variety of formats.
