While many Elevator Speeches are written by sales reps to pitch products and
services, the formulas from which the speeches derive can be easily adapted to
situations in which the product is you, the job-seeker.
One of the key benefits of attending a career fair is meeting new people --
recruiters, other job-seekers, career professionals -- to add to your network of
contacts.
As the fair picked up, while my eagerness never diminished, my ability to
remember candidate details did. Go early to ensure quality time with the
recruiters.
It's is a very short introduction of yourself used in situations where you are
meeting a lot of people and probably not spending a great deal of time with any
one of them. Events specifically designed for networking were made for the Sound
Bite, which lasts about 15-30 seconds and may or may not be the prelude to a
lengthier conversation

Develop a
plan of attack for the career fair. Many experts suggest interviewing with your
top companies first, then with other recruiters, and toward the end of the day
returning to your top choices.
Talk First with People You Know-- Talk to your friends,
family, teachers, professors, former supervisors or managers, etc. Practice
selling yourself first to those who know you.
A good script should include the following:
Introduction--Tell the person who you are.
Lead statement--Make a quick statement designed to get the
person's attention.
Body--State your purpose for the call.
Close--Accomplish your goal, ask for information, schedule
the meeting, etc.
Transferable Skills
Many skills can be applied to a variety of activities. They can transfer from
one activity to another. Self-management skills are highly transferable.
What we do with these feelings makes the difference. When we're able to find
something positive or see possibilities, we'll have energy and motivation to
take the next step.
