Just Beam It is a new service for quickly and easily sharing files with your colleagues. To use the service just visit Justbeamit.com and drag a file from your desktop to the Just Beam It transfer box. After dragging your file, Just Beam It generates an unique url for your file. Give that link to the person or people you want to be able to download your files. Just Beam It supports files up to 2GB. Watch the short video below for an overview of Just Beam It in action.

Soap Box is a new service that enables teachers to gather instant feedback from students through their cell phones, tablets, or laptops. Soap Box offers nine useful functions for teachers and students. One of the features that grabbed my attention is the "confusion barometer" that allows students to state their status as either "I get it" or "I'm confused." Two other features that jumped out at me are the "smart filter" and the "profanity filter." The smart filter searches for similar questions in the backchannel to avoid duplicates. The profanity filter blocks inappropriate language from being posted in the backchannel.

81 Dash provides a place for teachers to create chat rooms to use with students to host conversations and share files.

Classtools.net is a free flash tool website that allows you to create quizzes, diagrams, and educational games. You can then host them on your own site free of charge. You can sign up for the premium version of the website if you want access to more tools or ad-free templates.

HeapNote Teacher lets you easily organize your everyday work. You can manage your schedule, keep track of your students' grades, organize research and assignments.

ClassMarker is an online quiz and test creation website. As an educator, you get 100 free tests taken (and graded!) per month.

Digital Vaults is a new site put together by the National Archives (a great history resource). DV is a place where historical records, photos, and documents are kept. At this site a user can either create a Digital Poster, Movie (my favorite) or a Pathway Challenge.

Target Map is a service that allows anyone to create mapped displays of data sets. Users of Target Map can import and map their own data sets, use data sets from other users, use data sets found online, or manually input data onto a map.

The UN Stat Planet Map allows you to create useful mapped displays of UN development indicators data. There are ten data categories from which you can choose. Within each category there are further refinements possible. You can customize the map to present sharper contrasts between the data indicators, change the indicator symbols, and alter the map legend. To visual the change in data over time, use the time slider at the bottom of the map. Your maps and the data that they represent can be downloaded as PNG and JPEG files for printing.
