The Value of our Digital Identity - 7 views

  •
This article by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is made up of 5 parts: Part 1: digital identity: a driver of growth, a consumer hazard or both Part 2: a definition of digital identity and how consumers really see it Part 3: the value of digital identity - for organizations and consumers Part 4: the megatrends of digital identity Part 5: a practitioner's guide to the future of digital identity but most striking part for me was at the beginning: when the article mentioned: data explosion is possible because of four reasons: social media boom; the internet of things; online data transactions; and digital service and media and the direction towards the economic value of the digital identity

Copyright in MOOCS - 5 views

  •
If you want to dig deeper in terms of copyright, this PDF might be helpful.

What copyright considerations effect MOOC? Are technology transfer issues at stake? Both discussed very nicely in this paper?
  •
The issue of copyright has always been a contentious issue long before the introduction of MOOCs. The debate, now that we have MOOCs in our midst will continue as we try to find a common ground. The issue on the table is fair play.
  •
The article addresses the copyright challenges in a MOOC environment. Very useful reading as it discusses the IPR issues we generally do not think of.

Text and Genre in Reconstruction - 3 views

  •
The essay "The Human Presence in Digital Artefacts" by Alan Galey from "Text and Genre in Reconstruction", an open book on the effects of digitalization on ideas, behaviours, products and institutions (http://stephanieschlitz.com/dh/Text%26Genre-McCarty_vol_2.pdf). Would be of interest to those curious about publishing, literature, digital texts, etc.

A view from Canada on open educational resources (OER) - 0 views

  •
I've been employing Mr Google to try to help me determine how much OER might be used in post-secondary institutions in Canada and came across this document, which I think might be a slide deck turned into a PDF and without the accompanying script it's a little cryptic. The title is misleading, as it's the view from Western Canada, BC in particular. Most of the main OER initiatives I've been hearing about are in the west, I posted links to the BC Open Textbook initiative and to a particular text previously. This particular document

Robert Darnton about the centrality of public libraries (in the distant 2008): Meanwhile, I say: shore up the library. Stock it with printed matter. Reinforce its reading rooms. But don't think of it as a warehouse or a museum. While dispensing books, most research libraries operate as nerve centers for transmitting electronic impulses. They acquire data sets, maintain digital repositories, provide access to e-journals, and orchestrate information systems that reach deep into laboratories as well as studies. Many of them are sharing their intellectual wealth with the rest of the world by permitting Google to digitize their printed collections. Therefore, I also say: long live Google, but don't count on it living long enough to replace that venerable building with the Corinthian columns. As a citadel of learning and as a platform for adventure on the Internet, the research library still deserves to stand at the center of the campus, preserving the past and accumulating energy for the future. Thank you very much Kevin for this report. For me has been very ilustrative; my last experience with internet connection, collaboration and public libraries in Spain was that the person in charge of the lecture hall told me I was not allowed to plug the mobile phone charger in (as I was running out of battery with my smart phone), but that I could use the library desk computers (only for 30 minutes per day for free...) I was really disgusted and for me it is great to hear that in other countries these initiatives are taking place. Thanks!

Integrating Lifelong Learning Perspectives - 3 views

From the UNESCO Institute for Education, published in 2002. Quote "As humanity invented writing 5000 years ago, the culture of shared knowledge reached a new dimension; its horizon went on expanding until it became planetary through Internet." That is just something I needed while evaluating the John Willinsky video in module 5, hoping to find an answer to his question why do we want access to knowledge.
