OER-Brazil project The Brazilian Project on Open Educational Resources: Challenges and Prospects (Project REA.br) began in 2008 with the visit of an international delegation to the Ministry of Education and conducting a series of awareness raising events in Sao Paulo and Brasilia. REA.br The project was founded by Carolina Rossini in 2008 and is one of the first projects in Brazil that tries to appropriate the reality and the prospects Brazilian international discussion of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Education. Has the support of a passionate community: the Community REA-Brazil. This community is made ​​up of educators, scientists, engineers, ICT professionals, journalists, lawyers and all those who believe in open education and open educational resources. On my navigation searching for initiatives to see how Open Knowledge are making the difference on the Latin America society I found this... nowadays unfortunately on South America (and in other places as well) open knowledge initiative are not divulgated. Universities seem to be not interested about promoting these initiatives and few people know about them. I was amazed reading the text from Francisco J. García-Peñalvo (Open Knowledge. Challenges and Facts) and seeing that a lot of Universities on Europe and North America are promoting and working with open and free access to texts and online courses. It's incredible how people have the possibility of learning in a world that each day is more competitive. I really hope that this great news about Brazil helps more and more people to understand the impact and the changings on the educational process.

The Open Education is one of the most discussed topics on education internationally today. Can be defined as open education practices that characterize the opening of access to knowledge, ways of learning, learning technologies, educational systems, models of educational management, leadership and certification. Integral part of the Open Education are OER (Open Educational Resources), materials of teaching, learning and research, in any format or media, licensed to allow their reuse, adaptation and sharing by others. Since 2006 ABED disseminates OER and Open Education. Prof. Fredric Litto in 2006 wrote about open content and in 2009, the publication of the book 'Distance Education: State of the Art vol.1', ABED - Pearson Education, which won the Premio Tortoise brought the seventh of chapters on concept of openness in ODL open University of Brazil, REA, learning through virtual and digital libraries and digital repositories and virtual, written by Andreia inamorato dos Santos, Ronaldo Mota, Fredric Litto, Ana Paula Leite de Camargo and Ana Cristina Birth , respectively. This book presents the background and recent developmentos about the partnership between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, important topic to understand the global comunication.

The site offers a range of journals, with full text access. Areas include zoology, health, agriculture, and nutrition. There aren't a lot of journals so the site is manageable. Good source if you are a scientist seeking data/information from areas other than the west.

A timely article on the Outernet, a service that can broadcast e-books and culled information from the internet to less wealthy nations who do not have access to the internet. A few criticisms of the emerging technology do arise: addressing literacy in less developed locations, questioning whether the information broadcast is information that would be suited for that community, and finally whether there would be a prioritization of information with paid net-connected organizations.

Thank you for posting this article about Syed Karim's TED talk as I had not seen it before and found it very interesting. With the outernet, I believe people living in places where this is inadequate or no access to the internet will be able to accrue information. However, I still believe more efforts need to be done to expand the web so that all can partake.

Politicians and companies don't talk about this subject for now in Brazil. But I think that it will raise soon and I am afraid of result.

Interesting that this is in the news a lot and yet when I talk to people, I would say that more than half aren't completely sure what it means. Interesting, considering how important the issue is.
