The Understanding the Holocaust Project is designed to be used as a learning tool for schools and teachers to help their students better understand the tragic events of the Holocaust. By tapping into students' 21st Century skill set, this project will give students a "minds-eye" view of the streets of Amsterdam 1942 where Anne Frank secretly writes a diary from hiding.
There are so many more ways to study history than looking at simply military, nation-state analysis. This site addresses other tools historians use to investigate world history, such as the frameworks of geography and chronology. A geographical area can be used to explore commonalities across political borders to discover the effect of trade, disease, and migration. Included in this unit are readings, resources, maps, audio clips, a video to watch, as well as a transcript of the video. Pertinent questions and activities are also provided.
ProCon.org is a nonprofit research organization that presents pros and cons of controversial issues in a nonpartisan format. There are currently 42 issues being covered in a comprehensive manner. The site organizes each issue into sections like "Did You Know?", lists of Pros and Cons and then moves on to background information, media references and relevant video clips. There's a lot of information here for students to gain enough perspective to make their own decisions about issues.
