Student Affiliates in School Psychology Diversity Scholarship - 0 views

    SASP and Division 16 support students from under-represented cultural backgrounds as they endeavor to become a part of the inspiring profession of School Psychology. SASP and Division 16 are aware of the financial pressures that graduate students experience and thus, through generous support from Division 16, the Diversity Scholarship Program was created to provide monetary support to aid students from diverse cultural backgrounds entering the field. SASP offers the following three awards each year for student support: two incoming student awards in the amount of $500 and an advanced student award in the amount of $1,000.

    The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is accepting applications for U.S. students studying abroad in 2018.The Gilman scholarship is a U.S. Department of State grant program that enables students with limited finances to study or intern abroad. The scholarship is open to U.S. students who receive the Federal Pell Grant at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in education or intern abroad programs across the globe. The Gilman is a generous scholarship that allows students to go abroad when they normally cannot afford to," Howard said. "Additionally, after being awarded the scholarship I received invitations to take advantage of the many services the scholarship provided that help students get ready to go abroad, how to acclimate while abroad, and how to readjust when they get back. There is also a strong support system with alumni and more opportunities to stay involved. I don't think that there is any reason not to apply if you're eligible!" Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken can apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000, for a combined total of $8,000.

NWEA Invites Applications for Educators for Equity Grant Program | RFPs | PND - 0 views

    For 2019, at least three grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to schools, school districts, and nonprofit organizations in support of initiatives and programs designed to advance the academic development of underserved students. To be eligible, applicants must be either a public school or not-for-profit organization in the U.S. serving students from pre-K through 12th grade. Applications will be evaluated on the extent to which the award will benefit students who face systemic barriers to academic opportunities, including students who identify as black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, or Asian/Pacific Islander; students learning English and speaking a language other than English fluently; and students experiencing economic disadvantage. Programs also will be evaluated based on evidence base, equity focus, cultural relevance, and academic focus. Use of NWEA products and services is not required for eligibility and will not be considered when selecting grant recipients.

Graham Foundation Carter Manny Awards | - 0 views

    Founded in 1956, the Chicago-based Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts provides project-based grants to individuals and organizations and produces public programs to foster the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. Projects may be drawn from the various fields of inquiry supported by the foundation, including architectural history, theory, and criticism; design; engineering; landscape architecture; urban planning; urban studies; the visual arts; and other related fields. The foundation offers Carter Manny awards in two categories, including a research award for a student at the research stage of the doctoral dissertation and a writing award for a student at the writing stage of the doctoral dissertation. The research award is acknowledged with up to $15,000 and the writing award is acknowledged with up to $20,000. Ph.D. students who are presently candidates for a doctoral degree are eligible to apply. Students must be nominated by their department to apply for the Carter Manny Award. The award is open to students officially enrolled in schools in the U.S. and Canada, regardless of citizenship. The foundation will begin accepting applications on September 15, 2017. Applications must be received no later than November 15, 2017.

Legal Education Diversity Pipeline Grant Program | AccessLex - 0 views

    The Access Group Center for Research & Policy Analysis conducts research and provides grants that address some of the most critical issues facing legal education today, including enhancing access to legal education for students from diverse backgrounds; increasing the affordability and financing options for students pursuing legal education; and expanding the value and relevance of legal education. To that end, the center's Legal Education Diversity Pipeline Grant Program awards grants of up to $125,000 to current or proposed programs that provide effective interventions designed to enhance access to legal education for students from diverse backgrounds, specifically historically underrepresented minority students and students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Projects should address the issue of enhanced access to legal education at the national level, or encompass more localized efforts that might be efficiently scaled across institutions and regions for greater impact. Applications from programs that display a collaborative approach and strong partnerships with other organizations are encouraged.

    The Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research (U-STAR) program is designed to provide structured training programs to prepare high-achieving, underrepresented students for doctoral programs in biomedical research fields. Programmatic activities should include authentic research experiences, academic enhancements, skills development, and mentoring. Institutions eligible for MARC U-STAR grants are those with significant enrollments of honors students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. The long-term goal of the program is to  enhance the pool of underrepresented students earning baccalaureate and Ph.D degrees in biomedical research fields and ultimately to contribute to the diversification of the nation's scientific workforce.

    With support from the intermediary organization, school leaders will identify specific barriers to high school graduation, postsecondary enrollment, or postsecondary success, such as whether 12th grade students have submitted postsecondary applications and are on track to enroll in a postsecondary institution. To focus their work, schools will use continuous improvement methods to tackle the problem based on evidence and what they know about their students. By closely following student outcomes and the indicators that best predict whether a student will graduate high school and be successful in college, principals and teachers will know if their efforts are having the impact that they desire. And as part of a network, they'll also learn from each other about what's working and why.

Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

    The Medical Library Association is accepting applications for the MLA Scholarship for Minority Students. Through the program, a scholarship of up to $5,000 will be awarded to a minority student who is entering a graduate program at an American Library Association-accredited library school or has yet to finish at least one half of the program's requirements in the year following the granting of the scholarship. African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, or Pacific Islander American individuals who wish to study health sciences librarianship are eligible to apply. In addition, the applicant must be entering a master's program at an ALA-accredited graduate library school or, at the time of the awarding of the scholarship (February), have completed no more than one-half of the academic requirements of the graduate program.

    Guided by the belief that all lives have equal value, and that all students-especially Black, Latino, and low-income students-must have equal access to a great public education that prepares them for adulthood, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is excited to announce this Request for Proposal (RFP) to fund Networks for School Improvement (NSI). An NSI is a group of secondary schools working in partnership with an Intermediary organization to use a continuous improvement process to significantly increase the number of Black, Latino, and low-income students who earn a high school diploma, enroll in a postsecondary institution, and are on track in their first year to earn a credential with labor-market value. Secondary school teams work collaboratively to identify, test, and refine solutions that target a problem and reach an aim common across the network. An NSI's aim is to improve outcomes that are predictive of high school graduation and postsecondary success.

    The Administration for Children and Families, Administration for Native Americans announces the availability of Fiscal Year 2018 funds for the Native American Language Preservation and Maintenance - Esther Martinez Immersion (EMI) program. EMI provides funding for community-based projects that ensure continuing vitality of Native languages through immersion-based instruction. Programs funded under the EMI funding opportunity announcement must meet the requirements for either a Native American Language Nest, or a Native American Survival School. As defined by Esther Martinez Native American Languages Preservation Act (42 U.S.C. 2991b-3(b)(7). Pub. L. 109-394), Language Nests are "site-based educational programs that provide child care and instruction in a Native American language for at least 10 children under the age of seven for an average of at least 500 hours per child," and Native American Survival Schools are "site based educational programs for school-aged students that provide at least 500 hours per year per student of Native American language instruction to at least 15 students".

    The IUSE initiative provides a Foundation-wide framework of investments to support the agency's commitment to the highest caliber undergraduate STEM education. By improving the quality and effectiveness of undergraduate education in all STEM fields, IUSE investments enable NSF to lead national progress toward a diverse and innovative workforce and a STEM-literate public. Through the IUSE framework, NSF coordinates its investments in undergraduate programs and undergraduate STEM education to maximize impact, and to use shared metrics and appropriate program evaluation approaches. These investments are made across all directorates and address both STEM education in general and specific disciplinary needs. IUSE investments support a variety of activities including the inclusion of inquiry-based and active learning approaches in undergraduate STEM instruction, efforts to increase undergraduate STEM research experiences and courses, and research on the persistence and graduation of students in STEM programs. In addition, specific emerging cross-disciplinary needs include data science preparation for students in all majors, recruitment and retention of women and of students from underrepresented groups in STEM degree programs, incorporation of undergraduate research in STEM fields for STEM majors and non-majors, and re-envisioning of introductory courses in light of new research findings and theories.

    The student will learn about developing a public program. The series they will be focusing on celebrates the legacy of Afro-Latinos in the United States. For example, Arturo Schomburg, a black Puerto Rican bibliophile who African-American scholars like Carter G. Woodson, The Father of African-American History, benefitted from his collection of Pan-African scholarly works. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}. We are looking for students (undergraduate or graduate) who are enrolled in a degree seeking program. Recent graduates (no earlier than January 15, 2013) are eligible to apply. *Goldman Sachs Multicultural Junior Fellows program targets applicants who are part of a U.S. minority group (i.e. African-American, Latino-American, Asian Pacific Islander-American, Native American). Applicants should have a background in African-American Studies, Latino Studies, American Studies, History or something closely related. They should be able demonstrate knowledge of Pan-African and or Pan-Latino history and culture or something closely related. Public program experience is highly regarded.

    The LSAMP program assists universities and colleges in diversifying the STEM workforce through their efforts at significantly increasing the numbers of students successfully completing high quality degree programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.  Particular emphasis is placed on transforming STEM education through innovative recruitment and retention strategies and experiences in support of groups historically under-represented in STEM discipline:  African-Americans, Alaskan Natives, American Indians, Hispanic Americans, Native Hawiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.  The knowledge generation portfolio of LSAMP supported activities contributes to the body of literature on successful practices in student recruitment, retention, persistence, and attainment of STEM undergraduate and graduate degrees, especially for the previously mentioned populations underrepresented in STEM disciplines.
