A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards celebrate the power of human connections. The awards recognize distinguished service to the global mission of the STAR Scholars Network. Several individuals with a deep impact on advancing global, social mobility are recognized every year. We live in a time when innovation and creativity in support of humanity are of great importance. The Star Scholars Network recognizes the commitment of concerned people able and willing to make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for this award are solicited from around the world. The nominee can be from any field. Beginning in 2020, the Star Scholars Network is committed to promoting transnational research, or collaborative research between scholars of two or more countries (e.g., joint publications, research partnerships, etc.). The Global Connections Awards recognize STAR Scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to translational research that demonstrates the very best of scholarly collaboration among scholars around the world. In December 2020, the Star Scholars Network will provide awards in three categories: North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement, Shining Star Achievement in Research Award, Rising Star Emerging Scholar Certificate

The Southern Historical Collection (SHC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is accepting applications for five visiting scholar awards in fall 2013: * Joel Williamson Visiting Scholar Grant ($1200 award) For projects examining African Americans or race relations in the American South * Guion Griffis Johnson Visiting Scholar Grant ($1000 award) For projects examining women in the American South * John Eugene and Barbara Hilton Cay Visiting Scholar Grant ($1000 award) For projects examining the literary culture or traditions of the American South * J. The Public Scholar program supports well-researched books in the humanities intended to reach a broad readership. Such scholarship might present a narrative history, tell the stories of important individuals, analyze significant texts, provide a synthesis of ideas, revive interest in a neglected subject, or examine the latest thinking on a topic. Books supported by this program must be grounded in humanities research and scholarship. They must address significant humanities themes likely to be of broad interest and must be written in a readily accessible style. By establishing the Public Scholar program, NEH enters a long-term commitment to encourage scholarship in the humanities for general audiences. In the early rounds of the competition, NEH especially welcomes applicants who are in the writing stages of their projects or who already have a commitment from a publisher.  However, the Public Scholar program also supports projects in the early stages of development.

The Conference on College Composition & Communication is inviting applications for its Scholars for the Dream Travel Award, which encourages scholarship by members of historically underrepresented groups Through the program, emerging scholars will be awarded travel awards of $1,000, invitation to a reception, and an opportunity to work with mentors who are CCCC members. The opportunity is open to black, Latinx, Asian, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander scholars, regardless of citizenship status. Scholars for the Dream Travel Awards will be first-time presenters at CCCC.

Each year, approximately 25 scholars are selected as Members in the School of Social Science. A completed doctorate or equivalent is required by the application deadline. Memberships are awarded at both the junior and senior levels. They are for the full academic year only unless the scholar is from a country with an academic calendar that is substantially different than the one in the U.S., in which case single-term Memberships will be considered. Scholars may be considered for a second residency if a sufficient amount of time has passed since their initial Membership. Members are expected only to pursue their own research and participate in the seminars. The theme for 2021-22 is "Political Mobilizations and Social Movements," but applications outside the theme are also welcomed. An interdisciplinary dialogue will be fostered and applications are strongly encouraged from scholars across the social sciences, whether or not their research corresponds to the theme.

The William T. Grant Scholars Program supports career development for promising early-career researchers. The program funds five-year research and mentoring plans that significantly expand junior researchers' expertise in new disciplines, methods, and content areas. We recognize that early-career researchers are rarely given incentives or support to take such risks, so this award includes a mentoring component, as well as an emphasis on community and collaboration. Scholars Program applicants should have a track record of conducting high-quality research and an interest in pursuing a significant shift in their trajectories as researchers. Proposed research plans must address questions of policy and practice that are relevant to the Foundation's focus areas.

They seek to deepen our understanding of the human condition as well as current conditions and contemporary problems. The Public Scholar Program aims to encourage scholarship that will be of broad interest and have lasting impact. Such scholarship might present a narrative history, tell the stories of important individuals, analyze significant texts, provide a synthesis of ideas, revive interest in a neglected subject, or examine the latest thinking on a topic. Books supported by this program must be grounded in humanities research and scholarship. They must address significant humanities themes likely to be of broad interest and must be written in a readily accessible style.

The Study of the U.S. Branch, Office of Academic Exchange Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), invites proposal submissions for the design and implementation of five different Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars and Secondary Educators to take place over the course of five to six weeks at U.S. academic institutions beginning in June 2016, pending the availability of FY 2016 funds. These Institutes should provide multinational groups of experienced foreign university educators, scholars, teachers, and other professionals with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. Four of these Institutes will be for groups of 18 foreign university level faculty, focusing on the themes of Journalism and Media, U.S. Culture and Society, U.S. Foreign Policy, and U.S. National Security Policymaking, each with a total duration of six weeks.

The Summer Stipends Program at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) provides $6,000 for individuals to spend two consecutive months of full-time advanced research and writing that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities. Miami University is eligible to nominate two full-time faculty for the program. The Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School is the nominating official for Miami University. The two Miami nominees will be selected by the Associate Provost with input from an ad-hoc committee of humanities scholars who will review all internal submissions. The Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) is an Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Heidelberg. Building on the structures established by the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context," it is open to scholars especially in the humanities and the social sciences. Founded in April 2013, the Institute assembles scholars from all over the world to engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue and to enhance their understanding of transcultural processes. The institute offers an M.A. and a Doctoral Programme in Transcultural Studies. In addition to five permanent fellows (the HCTS professorships in Transcultural Studies), a group of senior and junior fellows is invited each year to join the HCTS to pursue their own research and to engage in discussions with other fellows as well as graduate students around a common theme. Fellows can choose to be in residence in Heidelberg for a period ranging from between six months to two academic years.

The Tinker Foundation, based in New York City, promotes the interchange of information within the community of those concerned with the affairs of Latin America. Emphasis is placed on those activities that have strong public policy implication, offer innovative solutions to the problems facing these regions today, and incorporate new mechanisms for addressing environmental, economic, and governance issues. Dr. Edward Larocque Tinker created the Tinker Foundation in 1959, and his lifelong devotion to the Iberian tradition in the Old and New Worlds gave definition to the Foundation's overall purpose. Tinker Foundation Field Research Grants The Tinker Foundation's Field Research Grants Program is designed to provide budding scholars with a first-hand experience of their region of study, regardless of academic discipline. The grants provide graduate students with funds for travel to and within Latin America to conduct pre-dissertation research. These awards allow students to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of language and culture, familiarize themselves with information sources relevant to their studies, conduct pilot studies and preliminary investigations, and develop contacts with scholars and institutions in their respective fields.

The purpose of the Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) Program is to develop a diverse pool of well-trained scientists available to address the nation's biomedical research agenda. The program requires effective partnerships between a research-intensive institution and a teaching-intensive partner institution that has a historical mission or a demonstrated commitment to educating students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce. The IRACDA program provides support for a mentored postdoctoral research training experience at the research-intensive institution and funding for the IRACDA scholars to develop critical teaching and mentoring skills at a partner institution. The primary goals of the IRACDA program are to develop a diverse pool of well-trained biomedical scientists who have the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue independent academic careers and to enhance science educational offerings at partner institutions. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) does not allow appointed scholars to lead an independent clinical trial, but does allow them to obtain research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.

The American Research Institute in Turkey takes pleasure in inviting applications for one to three advanced long-term fellowships for research in Turkey made possible by support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The fields of study cover all periods of history in the general range of the humanities and include humanistically oriented aspects of the social sciences, prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics, as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history. The fellowships tenures range from four to twelve continuous months during 2018-2019. Stipends of $4,200 per month are awarded on the basis of individual proposals. Scholars who have completed their formal training by the application deadline and plan to carry out research in Turkey for four months or longer may apply. They may be U.S. citizens or three-year residents of the U.S. Please consult ARIT U.S. office for questions of eligibility. Advanced scholars may also apply for ARIT Fellowships in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Awards are based on applicants' potential to become influential researchers, as well as their plans to expand their expertise in new and significant ways. The application should make a cohesive argument for how the applicant will expand his or her expertise. The research plan should evolve in conjunction with the development of new expertise, and the mentoring plan should describe how the proposed mentors will support applicants in acquiring that expertise. Proposed research plans must address questions that are relevant to policy and practice in the Foundation's focus areas.

The Tanaka Fund was established in 1974 as the result of an exchange of gifts between the governments of Canada and Japan. Canada offered $1,000,000 to Japan to promote Canadian studies in Japanese universities, while Japan provided 300 million yen for the enhancement of Japanese studies in Canadian universities. The funds were used to establish the "Japan Foundation Trust Fund for the Promotion of Japanese Studies in Canadian Universities". Guidelines developed by The Japan Foundation stipulated that the Trust Fund would be administered as an endowment and that the income thereof should be made available for the support and promotion of Japanese studies at universities and colleges in Canada. Universities Canada has administered the Fund since 1975. Until 2016, support for Japanese language lectureship at Canadian Universities was funded. In 2018, the Tanaka Fund was restructured to focus support towards young emerging scholars in order to foster the next generation of Japanese Studies scholarship in Canada.

The student will learn about developing a public program. The series they will be focusing on celebrates the legacy of Afro-Latinos in the United States. For example, Arturo Schomburg, a black Puerto Rican bibliophile who African-American scholars like Carter G. Woodson, The Father of African-American History, benefitted from his collection of Pan-African scholarly works. Summer 2013 - $6,000/400 hours {10-20 weeks}. We are looking for students (undergraduate or graduate) who are enrolled in a degree seeking program. Recent graduates (no earlier than January 15, 2013) are eligible to apply. *Goldman Sachs Multicultural Junior Fellows program targets applicants who are part of a U.S. minority group (i.e. African-American, Latino-American, Asian Pacific Islander-American, Native American). Applicants should have a background in African-American Studies, Latino Studies, American Studies, History or something closely related. They should be able demonstrate knowledge of Pan-African and or Pan-Latino history and culture or something closely related. Public program experience is highly regarded.

With this solicitation, NIJ seeks applications for the W.E.B. Du Bois Program of Research on Race and Crime. The program seeks to advance knowledge regarding the confluence of crime, justice, and culture in various societal contexts. This year, NIJ seeks applicants for two funding categories: 1) W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars- those who are advanced in their careers and seek to conduct research that advances the study of race and crime and 2) W.E.B. Du Bois Fellows- those who are early in their careers and seek the opportunity to elevate their research ideas to the level of national discussion.

AERA invites education-related research proposals using NCES, NSF, and other federal databases. Research Grants are available for faculty at institutions of higher education, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level scholars. Applications are encouraged from a variety of disciplines, such as but not limited to, education, sociology, economics, psychology, demography, statistics, and psychometrics.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Program furthers the Department's mission by advancing knowledge regarding the confluence of crime, justice, and culture in various societal contexts. It supports research on the intersections of race, offending, victimization, and the fair administration of justice for both juveniles and adults. This solicitation seeks investigator-initiated proposals to conduct research on topics linked to race and crime in violence and victimization, crime and prevention, and justice systems (policing, courts, community and institutional corrections). For FY2017, NIJ is particularly interested in research on homicide and other violence in minority communities, and criminal court topics. Funding categories include: 1) W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars who are advanced in their careers; and 2) W.E.B. Du Bois Fellows who are early in their careers.

The mission of the Milstein Medical Asian American Partnership Foundation is to improve world health by developing mutually beneficial partnerships between the United States and China, as well as greater Asia. To that end, the foundation is inviting applications from mainland China scholars and investigators for its Fellowship Award in Translational Medicine. The aim of the program is to build enduring partnership between the U.S. and Asia through the training of future Chinese academic leaders and to encourage long-term collaborations between the two regions.
